Fresh off the news of Apple looking to no longer ship out the 3G version, Walmart is revealing their plans to sell the 16GB iPhone 3GS for a price tag of $97 this week, according to AppleInsider.

Beginning Tuesday, the 16GB version of the 3GS will cost just about the same as the 8GB iPhone 3G. 

CNNMoney is saying that the new deal from Walmart will still require a two-year contract with AT&T.  Of course, one could only think that the price reduction is because of the upcoming holiday weekend.

"It is our commitment to always lead on price," according to Mehrdad Akbar, the senior category director for Walmart.

What's everyone's thoughts out there on this price reduction?  Is the move enough to lead you to scoop up a 3GS if you're still hanging onto the 3G?  Or just still wait it out with the majority for the upcoming 4G?  (or whatever name it may adopt).  Feel free to leave comments below!

I really like the camera on my iPhone 3GS. It’s not perfect, but I’ve pretty much stopped carrying the Canon point-and-shoot that used to stay with me always. But there’s a specific situation where I really miss that camera--trying to capture either a self-portrait or a self-taken shot of me in a group. Since I can’t see the iPhone’s screen when I point the camera back at myself, it’s hard to hit the shutter button right. Any tips?

Ah, yes, the MySpace-style self-portrait--we love those. Samsung’s TL220 and TL225 point-and-shoots even have a second LCD display on the front to let you preview your self-portrait before you commit, so you know it’s a valid art form. But on the iPhone, it’s tricky. The shot is taken when you release the shutter button, so the basic maneuver is to put your thumb on the shutter button, then turn the iPhone around awkwardly in your hand, try to frame the shot with nothing but guesswork, and release the button. Then you check--did it work? Nope. So you try again. And again.

Gorillacam's handy options make the iPhone easier to use.

Luckily, several iPhone apps improve the self-portrait dance by turning the entire screen into the shutter button. That means you can attempt to frame your shot without keeping one finger on the screen, then tap anywhere to take the photo. We’re partial to Gorillacam (free, joby.com/gorillacam) since it’s free and has fun features like a time delay, a grid and bubble level to help you get everything straight, and a three-shot burst for grabbing quick snaps. It vastly improves the built-in camera features, especially for self-portraiture.

Third-generation iPod touch and 3GS iPhone users, the iPhone OS 4.0 update will apply entirely for your mobile devices, though we're still unsure if iPod touch users will have to pay the 10$ upgrade fee. Users that are still holding on to their 3G and Second-gen iPod touches, however, will get the update sans multitasking, and perhaps a couple of other features, too. iPad users could be getting the update for free, but there's currently no official confirmation.

And as for any antique, 2G iPhones out there, we're still unsure if the iPhone OS 4.0 update will affect any of those users at all.
