The iPad invasion has begun! While the device itself won’t appear in stores until April 3rd, Academy Award television viewers on Sunday night were given a peek at the first commercial for the device.
Only moments before Pixar’s Up won a “Best Animated Feature” Academy Award, the iPad made its own presence known on Sunday night with its first television commercial. According to AppleInsider, the new 30-second spot features The Blue Van song “There Goes My Love” as the screen races through a series of iPad features.
Among the features demonstrated are using the expanded Mail app, finger gestures to browse through photo albums, downloading e-books from the new iBookstore and full-screen usage of both Mobile Safari and Apple’s Maps.
And of course, with a television commercial aimed at the film industry and buffs alike, media was also featured. The Star Trek reboot got a quick plug, and even a quick glance at the new page layout and word processing features of Apple’s multitouch iWork Pages app got a nod.
The new commercial is available for viewing in three different sizes from Apple’s website, which closes with noting the April 3 in-store date announced last week.
In other Oscar-related news, Apple CEO Steve Jobs was spotted amongst the red carpet elite, even posing for a Twittered photo with at least one attendee. Jobs, of course, is currently the largest shareholder of Disney thanks to their acquisition of Pixar — who capped off the night with a Best Animated Feature Film award for Up.
And it goes without saying that Jobs swapped his trademark black turtleneck for a tuxedo…
