While supplies of the the iPad with Wi-Fi are tight, Apple recently gave customers a clue about when its more expensive sibling, the iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G, would ship.

According to the U.S. Apple Store, the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will ship by May 7. That’s not necessarily May 7, but before or on May 7 that Apple should be putting yours in the mail. It could even ship tomorrow (though, we think that’s unlikely).

The newer iPad will talk to AT&T’s 3G network through two data plans: $29.99 for unlimited transfer, or $14.99 for 250 megabytes of transfer per month. The plans do not require contracts, Apple says.

It will also talk to Wi-Fi networks, just like the iPad that’s taking the world by storm right now.

That iPad, which connects only to Wi-Fi networks, ships within five to seven business days.

Both are available with with capacities of 16, 32 or 64 gigabytes, with the Wi-Fi + 3G models costing $229 more than the models that don’t have 3G. Orders are still limited to two per customer, and only in the United States.

Last week, Steve Jobs told a European customer that both iPads would be released worldwide at the end of May. Apple will begin taking international preorders May 10.

The limited supply of the iPad has made it a hot commodity on the gray market and online auction sites.
