If you’re keen to run Android on your iPhone 2G and see what, if anything, you’ve been missing out on, check out the video below.
The 70 terrifying steps to turn your iPhone into an ever-loving Android champ of a machine are laid out in the detailed video, and backed up by a written step-by-step tutorial provided by the good people at Android ALot.
Be forewarned, the installation, as alluded to in this article’s teaser, is not for the faint of heart. However, as OS 4.0 won’t be offered for the iPhone 2G, many of you out there still rocking an original iPhone might well consider the possibility of turning your iPhone into an expensive paperweight if it means having a chance to squeeze just a little more life out of the hardware.

Well, when next we meet for our next round of In Case You Missed It,
things will be different. It Will Have Happened. At least one of you,
maybe more, just might be reading next week’s column on the fabled iPad.
Now, we’re not saying that this is the very first place that
you should check out on Mobile Safari once you get your iPad in your hot
little hands. We’re just saying that this is the absolute very first
place you should check out. And now, the end of an era, this week’s best
pre-iPad viewed Mac|Life columns.
Features:
- Zinio
on Maximizing Magazine Reading on iPad – Now while not every publisher
is overjoyed and racing to prep content for the iPad, most publishers
haven’t made smart decisions lately. Not so Zinio, who has a history of
making the most of digital editions. While he was a little coy, wanting
to leave some sizzle for their planned April launch, Zinio president and
CEO Rich Maggiotto, did dish a little with us about where their head is
at the sort of thinking that went into their upcoming iPad product
launch.
-
Agile Web Solutions Talks About 1Password for the iPad – David
Chartier, chief media producer at Agile Web Solutions, was entirely at
the opposite end of the spectrum from Maggiotto. Not only did he want to
talk plenty about the award-winner’s upcoming iPad app, Agile’s been
posting mockups of their new redesign since mid-February. This crew
rocked it as a Mac app, so we’re betting they do the same for the iPad.
How-Tos:
-
Back Up Your Entire Network – Okay, just about all of us, sooner or
later, has had to back up a computer. Maybe we’re upgrading our OS or
transferring everything to a external HD. It’s tricky, but it can be
done. Now, are you ready to go pro? Because backing up your entire
network? Now that’s not for the faint of heart.
-
Gotta Rename ‘Em All — Batch Renaming Files – One of the worst things
about files is when you find you’ve got tons of technical names, like
DSCN0684.jpg or some other camera format, and you’ve got to rename a ton
of them. Name Mangler is cheap, easy to use, and takes the sting out of
the process. There are other software out that do this, and Automator
pros could hook it up, but this is one that’s easy on the casual user’s
skill level.
Reviews:
-
Tom Bihn Synapse – If you’re like us, you know that finding the right
bag is important. Messenger or backpack is one eternal question, but
let’s say you pick backpack. Too bulky and you find yourself crushed in
trains, not enough padding and it’s a MacBook to the kidneys – or worse.
Tom Bihn has come up with something that just about covers every one of
our demands – but at a price.
-
Yurtopia Yurbuds – We don’t know anyone personally, who still uses the
Apple earbud headphones, but when we see people on the street with the
telltale white cord, we wonder about their ability to actually hear. We
also wonder how they can bear to wear those flat round discs inside
their ears. The good folks at Yurtopia must have thought the same thing,
because their Yurbuds are a solution to a problem we’d like to see
addressed. Of course, at this price, couldn’t you just buy decent
fitting earbuds that sound good too?
News:
Well,
of course it’s iPad, iPad, iPad, that’s all anyone can talk about,
leaving the iPhone feeling like the Jan Brady of the iProducts. Whether
it’s purported leaks of the all new iPad App Store showing up on
screen…or it’s again supposed leaks of the iBookstore with possible
pricing going one way…or maybe the pricing is going a completely other
direction like we’d heard before and too steep for Random House…and
apparently Apple’s cramming iBookstore with 30,000 public domain Project
Gutenberg titles to be ready to go on day one…which would be
consistent with polls showing that the iPad right now is more appealing
to media consumers than to gamers…which shouldn’t last long if
Cupertino’s planning and marketing this the right way based on their
testing…and maybe Amazon’s figured that if their Kindle isn’t going to
be such a big seller anymore, because their Kindle iPad App is tons
cooler than a real Kindle…speaking of big retailers, it looks like
Best Buy’s getting themselves ready for April 3rd too…and if you
pre-ordered your iPad, check your bank statement, because you’ve
probably been pre-authorized already too. Can you stand the wait?
Best
Buy isn’t the only third party getting their hands on some Apple
products. Radio Shack is good to go to be the second largest third party
seller of iPhones; if that goes well, maybe iPad’s will be there one
day too..and if AT&T has been your biggest gripe in the whole
process, contract free iPhones are now for sale, so you can get around
to upgrading that Razr you’ve been carrying around since 2005…in the
same getting around to it boat, Digg finally decided to get themselves
an iPhone app…and AT&T isn’t resting on their iPhone laurels;
despite holding an exclusive contract with Apple, they have a bit more
of an open relationship with the iPhone’s competitors…love is a fickle
thing, we guess, and no one knew that more than Jane Austen and her
zombie lover…
We
mentioned earlier about some App Store excitement with leaks and so
forth, but the week was ripe in other App Store news…for instance, the
doors are open and iPad Apps are good to be submitted as the flood
surely begins…in the regular App Store, Opera becomes the latest to
challenge Mobile Safari as they drop their own browser in the App Store;
good luck with that….Instapaper’s tireless developer isn’t waiting
around and is rolling out the goodies early, hoping to have something
iPad worthy on day one, with upgrades to follow once he, like everyone
else, gets his mitts on his very own iPad…another company we expect to
work the iPad app overtime is Readdle and their latest update for
Scanner Pro shows the company is still dedicated to delivering the love
to their customers…speaking of getting some love electronically, is it
possible, do our eyes deceive us, or is it possible that the iPad App
Store might just bring an Explicit category with it? Say it ain’t so….
The iPhone and iPod touch have provided all software developers with a level playing field-developers working alone have the same access to consumers as multinational software publishers. Very cool indeed! To make your application stand out from the crowd, though, it has to have that something extra. You must learn the skills to take your [...]
