On April 3, 2010, in Industry News, by Matthew Tilmann

OfficeiPad2Microsoft has announced that there are no immediate plans to make a Microsoft Office Suite app for the iPad, as they had alluded to earlier this year, according to Gadget Venue.

"Yeah, it’s something that we’re looking at," Microsoft Senior Product manager Mike Tedesco responded.  "Obviously the announcement (of the iPad) is really fresh and there’s nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today."

"We never say never, but we have no current plans" to develop an edition of Office for the iPad, Stephen Elop, head of Microsoft’s business division said.

Microsoft also said that the beta version of Office 2010 can currently be downloaded and that 6 million people have already downloaded the current version versus the 3 million that had downloaded Office 2007 when that was brand new.  On that note, Microsoft doesn’t feel that Google Docs poses a challenge to them at all.
