Video: Ellen DeGeneres Pokes Fun at iPhone, Then Recants

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres shows a video poking fun at using the iPhone, and then apologizes the next day for apparently irritating Apple.

Engadget is reporting that talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres found herself in a bit of hot (or maybe just uncomfortably warm) with Apple this week after showing a quick parody video on her show that pokes fun at both herself and the iPhone.

In the video, Ellen fumbles to send a text message but winds up in the Maps application instead. When she finally figures out how to get back to the Messages app, she can’t quite type properly on the iPhone’s soft keyboard and winds up sending a gibberish text message to wife Portia de Rossi, who then fires back, “What?” as Ellen fumbles to figure out how to reply — and hits the “Close” button instead. She then hands the phone to someone offscreen and asks, “Can you help me with this?”

Apparently, someone at Apple wasn’t too crazy about the video and complained that Ellen was making it look hard to use. The comedienne apologized on air the next day, going so far as to gush about how much she loves her iPhone, her iPad, her iPod and even her… IHOP. (Insert laughter here.)

Of course, the first indication that it was a joke should have been the Ellen iPhone app clearly placed in the first, upper-left corner position on the host’s handset. Check out the apology (complete with a replay of the skit itself) embedded below.

Review: Eco Punk for iPhone

On April 6, 2010, in Industry News, by Meghann Myers

Eco Punk stars a gun-wielding skateboarding punk bunny rabbit on a mission to save the planet. Though it’s tempting to write Eco Punk off as parody, the game seems genuine in its environmental message, if not in its punk rock attitude. Developed by Nitako, this strange little game possesses unique charms and surprisingly fun gameplay.
