So your phone will get brighter with auto brightness on then if auto brightness is off?
Yes, it will.
@iClarified this one actually depends on the surroundings your currently at. Auto brightness on doesn’t exactly means it will always be brighter than auto brightness off. In the case your showing us, it is directed to a light source which basically means the brightness will go up to the highest nit peak brightness of the screen. Try making a test with no light on, auto brightness off is basically brighter because auto brightness on will make the screen less brighter since it won’t be necessary to have a very high brightness in a dark sorroundings.
What changed since the first video?
In the first one, we stayed consistent with our past videos by using an entirely white display for measuring SDR brightness. As noted by Mathieu, this doesn’t allow the display to reach peak brightness with Auto-Brightness ON. In this video, we use a smaller spot of white light for both SDR and HDR to show the huge jump in brightness when “outdoors”.
Weil done !
Thanks!
Great video. Got a question though. How do i enable hdr on my iphone 14 pro max? Thank you
You don’t need to enable HDR to view HDR content; however, to capture HDR video make sure the toggle is on at Settings > Camera > Record Video.
@iClarified okay very very fast thank you very much keep going
I have an iphone xr and an iphone 14 pro, but it seem like the xr is brighter than the 14pro with the exact same settings, i wonder why
Same scenario here which is why I’m here. I was baffled and thought why a phone with 1/3 the brightness nits was seemingly brighter to me. I’m assuming you didn’t turn off auto-brightness under Display and Text Size menu @ 0:37 sec.
WARNING: it can get bright enough to burn your retina so don’t stare too long. It should only be used in the outside sunlight. Indoors was very intense.
@MisterMister5893 you are right both of the phones was the auto brightness on, when i turn it off the 14 pro is indeed brighter
@Volkie I’m glad it helped. I was about to throw my new phone out the window until this video. Thought auto brightness was on the main menu.
Still struggling to get a good battery life. Last night it was 25% before bed and it was dead when I woke up. People on Reddit is telling me the phone needs to finish indexing. Still shouldn’t take up that much battery over wifi.
@MisterMister5893 i dont have any problem with the battery life its a full battery goes for 1,5 day, but i must say i dont play with it alot
Dont throw it away haha, i noticed that the brightness of the xr is more white and the iphone 14pro is more yellow, true tone is also off.
My 13 pro max is brighter than my 14 pro max with auto brightness off
I don’t like having it on will it help?
Can it damage the pixels or shorten their lifespan when the auto-brightness in sunlight is on 100 % for like 5 minutes?
not exactly, the most that could happen is pixel burns on your screen which takes a long time to happen, and there is a solution for it that costs nothing.
@ox What’s the solution?
Perfect
With the same comparison with max
I have a suggestion – this is not the proper way of testing, you should add some more steps 🙂
The testing in this video can be called as 10% white window,
you should also add 50% white window – where your white spot covers 50% of the screen. ( brightness decrease can be noted)
also add 100% white window – where the whole display is white. ( lowest max brightness value is obtained)
adding these steps will make your test complete.(you will get a total of 24 values including HDR and SDR)
Please take this as suggestion so you could have a proper testing method for future devices.
Also if you can, please provide 50% and 100% white values of iphone 14 pro in description or comment.
thank you 🙂
can you do a dimming test? Like when the phone overheats and dims the display? I wonder if iphone 14 pro is improved from iphone 13 pro. Thanks
My 14 Pro Max does not over heat. So I don’t know what your issue is.
@GreatSoup this happens when in the sun. The phone will be bright at first, but will eventually overheat due to the sun heat as well as the heat added from all the power is takes to make the display brighter. The phone then dims the display to lower the heat output.
I think people are complaining about the battery life on iPhone 14 pro due to higher auto brightness because it normally gets much brighter than 13 pro series! It means battery will be much better if brightness is the same on 14 pro like 13 pro.
The most perfect test that I could find on all of Youtube! Thanks for this! Perfect!
ah my god…2400 nit brightness….
I want every screen to be tested like this, very well done and informative.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Can you do samsung s23 and compare the results
