It’s been seemingly confirmed that the MacBook Pros will have an HDMI 2.0 Port and a UHS-II SD Card Slot. Bummed it couldn’t be HDMI 2.1, but hopefully that comes in a refresh down the line.
HDMI 2.0 indeed! You made a little mistake (saying it is 1.4) which isn’t right because HDMI 1.4 supports only up to 30Hz. Just wanted to let you know!
No excuse for this considering gpu has 120 hrz mode – same for the SD slot ..should have been the latest and fastest
They did that on purpose, along with removing “MacBook Pro” from the bottom of the display. They *KNOW* people would’ve loved that, so they’re going to bring them back in the next update to squeeze even more money out of people.
@Herbie Follin Yeah, the Macbook Pro logo at the bottom of the screen has been taken off and on over and over again over the years. They just like to change things “for novelty”.
@Herbie Follin Only because it works, voluntarily.
I honestly loved seeing these new MacBook Pros! However, I a am more than likely going to stick with my M1 MacBook Air for a while longer. I am still honestly in love with that thing!I th ink the earliest that I will make any upgrading decisions is when the M2 MacBook Air comes out! That way, I can see the design of both, and make a better purchasing decision.
Ordered 16” m1 pro 1tb 16gb ram as soon as it became available. It’s exactly what I needed. I’m very happy and can’t wait!
That’s the model I’m trying to decide on
My thoughts on the notch match yours exactly. The display expanded upwards, using non-used real estate around the camera, that’s all.. it’s not like we’re missing out on something. Now.. is it ‘ugly’? That’s personal preference. But it’s a non-issue to me.
I thought it was going to be a deal-breaker, but I was wrong. The entire bar blacks out when you are going full screen, so it actually looks pretty cool.
Already ordered the 16″ M1 Max. By the way, the HDMI port is most probably 2.0 not 1.4. 1.4 is limited to 4K30, 2.0 goes up to 4K60. I’m disappointed they didn’t use HDMI 2.1 to be future proof somehow.
You can plug in 2.1 using TB4 dock (yes accessories)
@Adele Rich, or maybe they work hard !!!

@Herbie Follin People cared about the “MacBook Pro” name at the bottom of the display? Always seemed unnecessary to me
I like this dude… first time watching one of his vids and I’m impressed!
MKBHD mini
Bought a 16” M1 Max with 24 GPUs, 32GB and a 2TB SSD. Future proof enough for me. First time I have ever bought an apple product the day it was announced.
Now if display manufactures would only start competing with Apple with quality products or if Apple would just make a display only version of the M1 iMac at 4K, 32” and a TB-4 DP capability.
I’m going to wait until the initial wave is done, see what oddities develop, and go for a low end (8-10 core) model with 1-2 TB of drive space and 32 GB of RAM… which should last me a while. However, I may just go for the 13″ M1, because the laptop isn’t my daily driver, but something more for the road. These have a ton of promise… I can’t wait to see what people’s opinions of them are when they are in the real world.
I don’t think you can buy 32GB Ram in the low spec models? I think you have to pay for the higher spec ones for that?
The 16″ M1 MAX has everything I hoped it would be and more, except for affordability. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop me from ordering a 16″ MAX. I got the space grey one so I could tell it and my silver 2012.5 15.4″ MBP Retina apart …
I love that Apple jacked up the price of last years 13” M1 and kept it in the lineup because they increased the resale value for us current owners looking to trade up.
The notch does not bother me. I have ordered the base model 14″ M1 Pro. The new MacBooks are awesome! Thank you for the great videos. I’ve watched many of them for a long time.
Battery life may be the main issue. The 13 M1 is listed as 17 hours vs the 11 hours in the 14. In real world, I only get about 1/2 the listed, so after 4 or 5 hours I may be looking to plug in, not ideal.
Will be ordering a 16 w 32 gb ram but I’m waiting for two things. I do want to read reviews first and I’m hoping there will be some kind of discounts near Black Friday. So far what I’ve seen it almost is perfect but it’s so dang expensive. This will be by far the most I’ve ever spent on a laptop. God knows I need a replacement I’m running a late 2013 13 rMBP.
Would be interested to hear why you went for the 14″ model?
You’re right about the notch not interfering in the usual work flow but there are definitely situations that make the notch quite distracting and even potentially downright unusable: 1) I tend to normally auto hide my top bar so the notch does dig into even regular content for me but this isn’t a big issue as I can just turn off auto hide i suppose 2) viewing full screen photos or iPhone videos (ie mostly vertical) in full screen will have the notch digging into the content 3) playing games will be quite distracting with the notch in your face and maybe downright problematic if the game has UI elements that normally take their place in that portion of the screen. Overall, I think they’re just keeping the spot for future Face ID, which makes me dislike the current notch bc it doesn’t offer anything new (yes yes I know the camera is better but I really don’t think this is the sole reason for the notch) and it does at best offer a visual distraction and at worst a real intrusion into your content depending on what you’re doing as I described. I just wish they had emulated the near bezelless design of the XPS laptops.
In fullscreen the notch will be hidden as there is a black bar at the top
This guy has a calm soothing voice. Very informative with no drama. Bravo.
M1 Max also gets double the video encode/decode blocks – that ought to get you insane encode/decode/transcode speeds. M1 Pro (I believe) limits you to one set.
USB-C charging will still be limited to 100 watts as per the standard. To get 140 watts you need to use the MagSafe cable.
I think you get a 96 watt fast charger on the 14″ for anything above the base config, and if you go for M1 Max on the 16″ you get a 140 watt fast charger. Not sure if you can use the 140 watt charger on the 14″ – I wasn’t interested so I didn’t try to configure it.
These models are pretty much what I expect: mine will be a 32 GPU, 32 GB, 2 TB 16″ M1 Max model.
The MacBook Pros are more than I expected although I’ve not received mine yet. Current unit is a Mid 2014 with 1 TB SSD and two external displays so really need a refresh. Ordered a 16″ M1 Pro Max with 2 TB for future proofing. Thought about going to 64GB on Ram but I doubt I’ll do that much Video processing and my main concern is to make sure this unit lasts for at least six years with four external displays. Was greatly disappointed to hear Cook say shipment in a few days, then see delivery in 4 to 5 weeks even though I ordered mine within 15 minutes of the Store opening. Really like your channel – you have a very good presentation style.
I bought a 16″ M1 Max 32GB right after the announcement. Delivery in Detroit by Nov 17-24. I am switching from PC for my whole adult life to Mac for my first time. Wife has been using MacBooks since 2006 or so. As for the gentlemen who posted this video, he is awesome. Loved his knowledge, loved how he explained everything in a suscinct way, great voice and charm, even through in some good humor. I subscribed to his channel because I want to get future updates from him. Bravo!
Very good video, straight to the point and no fanboy stuff like on other channels (MBKHD and MaxTech).
