What differences are there between the new Lightning EarPods and the old 3.5mm EarPods? Not much, outside of the Lightning connector, additional length, a rubber gasket, and the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter.

I’m really thinking about getting the lightning EarPods for my 6s.

If you where responding to what I pasted by a mistake and fixed by now, I
believe it was part of a comment that I wrote to all those Apple haters and
how they are acting like children!
Any way, sorry about my mistake earlier.

I just mean that this guy if he’s on an older iPhone, shouldn’t upgrade to
lightning. If you have a headphone jack and can charge at the same time, do
that route.
(I have the 7).

Sorry, I was replying to something that was taken off, I don’t see it any
more.
I’m also at the same time watching the President debate entreatment and
because my job took me to the other side of the glob it’s already AM 4:56
so I’m not on top of my game because of no sleeping.
About the iPhone 7, I still haven’t ordered mine because I like my 6S Jail
broken and I’ll have to give it back to Apple because I’m on the yearly
replacement program so I’ll do it and I’m guessing soon it’s just that I’m
waiting for an iOS 10 jailbreak to come out and hoping that by then Apple
will install better speakers on the 7 because of the hissing problem.
And truthfully if it wasn’t for next year Anniversary iPhone X which should
be amazing, I really am not sure that I would have been giving up my 6S but
I don’t want to loose my chance for the next year upgrade, so to keep my
yearly upgrade and not loose it I must upgrade to the 7 which is ok it’s
just that I finally got my iPhone running and looking so beautiful and fast
with so many tweaks that iOS 10 could only dream of, and now I’ll have to
do it all over again.
I just want to try it out… of course I’ll get the Airpods but the
lightning sounds interesting

I agree but I’m sure that there are many companies that will be coming out
very soon with hundreds of lightning plugged headphones, many for great
prices and many will sound way better then Apples ones and it’s not because
Apple can’t make great sounding headphones, they sure can but they want to
sell the new cool technology Bluetooth headphones with the new incredible
chip in it so I believe that the Lightning Headphones that come with the 7
are exactly the same older headphones only with a Lightning connector and
an Apple brand price.
@9to5Mac weird question, but do they fit in the old plastic case the 3.5 mm
headphones came in? I love that case for storing them in a bag and got
bummed out when I found out the case is no longer included.

I heard there is a BUILTIN DAC on the new ear-pods… So there most be a
difference in power send to the drivers.
If there is a built-in DAC then there must be a subtle difference (since
they’re Apple EarPods to begin with). If you listen to higher quality music
files like FLAC on the iPhone you might be able to identify a difference.
MP3 isn’t enough to test the “new” EarPods.
9to5Mac I was hopping for a deeper study.. so i could decide if to preorder

I used Apple Music. I didn’t use any high quality music. I’ll ask
@snazzylabs and settle this once and for all 🙂

anyway so it’s just the same.
However in my testing, I have found that I can get the new lightning
EarPods slightly louder that the old ones.
(I tested with an iPhone 6Plus using the headphone jack built in for the
old EarPods and the lightning port for the newer ones.
Kris Goodman I feel the same way.. the Lightning adaptor has the same DAC
as the 6s. But I really think just because the lightning can output much
more power than a 3.5mm, it gives the DAC more power and then the drivers
have more power.. that’s what I think anyway

I don’t agree. The lightning EarPods sound different. They have a tiny bit
less Bass, the mids feel the same but the tweeter/highs sound more precise
and they’re slightly louder in the mids and highs. So that could either
mean the Bass has been turned down. Or the bass is the same and the other 2
have changed. Either way, I prefer the lightning sound and if you use the
lightning to 3.5mm adaptor in your car. It sounds much better through the
car audio.

One thing that I don’t understand is why so many people complain about
having to carry the adapter everywhere with them and are worried about
loosing it. What I don’t understand is why they haven’t figured out to just
keep it attached to the headphones all the time and just forget about it!!!
Also by using the adapter you move back from digital to analog.
odedo1 : But its never something anyone wants to do. You have an adaptor,
to keep it on the earphones. What if you need to take the adaptor off? Then
you put it to the side, or pocket or just forget all about it. It’s not so
much the adaptor though, it’s more the fact that 95% of the world uses
3.5mm jack and now you need to go through pain to use the 3.5mm, and if
your earphones are lighting. But they’re super good, you want them on your
laptop, etc.. you can’t because there’s no adaptor for that.
I bugs me that it doesn’t come in the plastic casing! I actually use that
plastic casing for my EarPods. Not that I intend to buy an iPhone 7, but it
just bugs me.

I have an iPhone 6+ 128gb can’t find a reason to upgrade to the 7. Until I
can find a pair of wireless earphones convenient enough to used while
twisting and turning in bed. My phone is already heavy enough to add
adapters. Moreover I used my phone a lot to watch YouTube while it charges
and I love to keep my audio private. I just might not use the new iPhone
yet.
