Glad FCP fans have finally got what they wanted. It seems a great version one release.
Not true about Voice Isolation in Lumafusion, it is included natively, Apple let’s anyone use the code for it according to Chris from Lumafusion on an interview he gave recently at NAB.
really doubt they will let us edit from external drives, that’s how Apple makes money (overpricing internal storage upgrades and iCloud storage)
I hope the subscription model isn’t a sign of things to come to the MacOS desktop.
We all need to kick up a fuzz about the subscription model. Subscriptions for applications is not something I want the world of tech to get too used to. If Final Cut on the Mac becomes a subscription based application I will be very sad. I would rather buy major upgrades than subscribe and feel bad about not using it enough every month
It is not a perfect solution, but if it gets Apple to develop and improve it, ergo support it for the long term, then it may be the way forward. Many of my best apps are on subscription, and I conclude that supporting devs to maintain and improve means that it is worthwhile. For most people using FCP on their iPad it will be to make money so $50 a year is not unreasonable.

This is Apple, not some startup made up of <50 employees. And the best solution in most cases is to have both options because subscription-only is dumb AF.

@CO No one is forcing anyone to subscribe so if it is unacceptable then use something else!
@andyH_England What a horribly silly statement. They ARE forcing people to subscribe if that’s the only way to access the programs and not every category will have a suitable alternative.
In your intro you said exactly what I said in a Short I made earlier. Sad to leave LumaFusion but the future is Final Cut Pro surely? Unless LF pulls come major rabbits out of the bag!
As a an Apple Certified audio professional who uses Logic Pro on macOS professionally on a daily basis for producing and mixing the content on my channel, my albums and for my clients, I firmly believe in ownership and being able to upgrade products when I see fit. This trend of subscriptions happened first with Adobe, then Avid then Waves and now Apple. I have always been and remain a fan of Apple but if the option for purchasing software was ever removed, then I would have no need the product. If others want to continue this path and allow companies to take more and more power out of the hands of their customers, then that is their prerogative but I will stand my ground firmly when I say I will not invest in any subscription-only platform. We already have to pay for utilities, we do not need any more subscriptions. I will not allow any trends in the industry to dictate my decisions. I still buy CDs & DVDs, I do not believe in music streaming services either. I own my home, my car, my computer, my music, my daw, my plugins and that is not ever going to change. Having said that, I am happy to see that Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro have made it to the iPad. The only thing holding these new apps back are their subscription-only model.

Curiously enough, some of the video editing/photography apps on the iPad gives you the choice to either subscription for $6 dollars a month or pay something like $300 dollars but it outright.
WELL SAID!! I couldn’t agree more. I am so done with subscriptions and for people to so willingly hand wave it as if it were nothing. It is a massive issue. I’ve paid for Logic Pro and I am now being asked to keep paying for it simply for an app to hand off on on an iPad Pro I spent over a grand on SPECIFICALLY on the expectation of using pro apps. If this is what I am being given then I seriously have to question what the point of having this iPad Pro for. May as well sell it if this subscription model is the slap in the face I’m getting after forking out for the damn hardware.
@Problembeing I paid for Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro X too. I am still considering Luma Fusion instead on my iPad Pro as that is a 1 time 30 pounds fee and an extra 20 pounds to export to Final Cut Pro on the Mac. At least what you subscribe to videos, music and sound effects are not essential for actually using the app. I got my new m2 11 inch iPad Pro on Monday and in the last moment I decided to get a 512gb one just to make it more future proof.
@wordswondrouswords I hear you. The only damn reason I got this M1 iPad was on the promise of pro apps, and it was Final Cut and Logic I was waiting on. Now they expect me to pay even MORE damn money after I’ve already paid out for Logic Pro AND the iPad, which is now already out of date only a damn year later. I am NOT a happy bunny.
After some time, letting the off-putting subscription model set in, I can see why Apple went with that route because it is a “pro” product for professional users making income. I don’t particularly appreciate paying for something that I don’t own.
As a UX designer i have always dreamed of completely replacing my Mac with my iPad. Glad to see music and video professionals getting what they want.
As for Luma Fusion DaVinci Resolve was going to be a big issue for Luma. Now with FCP it could be its death!! For me Luma took too long to add features that Resolve and hopefully FCP have. Count me in for $50/year. I’m a long time FCP user since version 3!! But have been working with Resolve for some projects (to see how it works) along with FCPX.
I am super curious on whether it’s going to be the same file format on macos. And also whether it supports all the plug in was in CCPiano, don’t forget some intel plug in, that’s going to be a problem. Last things is how do fcp on iPad support secondary display and trackpad, i didn’t see any in the intro video.

It would be interesting to see if they transfer these new features to the desk top version and they keep updating it and it doesn’t become obsolete!!
