25 Comments on Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra from an iPad Pro user’s Perspective

  1. If the tab S8 ultra have 1600 in brightness, like M1 iPad pro, the display of the Samsung tablet will blow you away how beautiful it will be.

  2. Completely blown away by the Samsung Ultra and its flexible software. Since 2010 after getting my first iPad, I have had several over the years. I have had many arguments with anti-Apple people as well – in defense of Apple products (which I still love.) However, in the past few weeks, I have been using the Ultra and Surface Pro 8 (yes, I even like Windows again), and I have to say, these are phenomenal products. Although an M1 MBA is my go-to for digital projects, nothing has come close to that Samsung Ultra for sheer media consumption – magazines, websites, and videos, and fun.

    • I feel that the M1 MacBook is a way better purchase than the M1 iPad. I personally prefer Windows (i say these loosely, as prefer is only due to versatility of the product that allows me to run on any hardware. I’m neither a fanboy of Windows nor am I against them perse) however, i am a multi-OS user for the most part. I feel that on Android, at least, on a potential basis, there is room to expand on what it has already for a desktop experience . I do hope that with Android 13, we get to see KVM natively working. That would add so much versatility to any of the Android tablets (with good specs) that I can actually see it as a desktop replacement with the caveat that you’re either running Windows (ARM) / Linux (ARM) on it.

I think if Apple ever allows iPads to have a macOS desktop mode experience, I would easily see myself saving up for an M2/M3 iPad. Also, I wish they had less confusing naming convention for their processor tiers (i refuse to call it silicon). like look at my Macbook pro m1 pro max..sounds like a mouth full. hahaha.

Surface 8 — what’s good about it? is the battery life good for you? and what is your overall feel of the laptop?

    • @Son Of Age I agree with you about an M2 iPad running MacOS! I would love that. I love the iPad and always have- I have just grown bored with it. Thus, my love of the Samsung Ultra and new found OS freedom. The Surface is a different beast. It is a great PC. I dock it and it is insanely fast and reliable- much like my M1 MBA. I have thrown video and photography projects at it including astrophotography image processing and it is rock solid. The problem with the SP8 is that it hasn’t yet capitalized on the apps that can make it a much better tablet. Time will tell. Now that iCloud, Google drive and OneDrive are so universal, I seamlessly go between all devices however

    • @stress pro the biggest problem with Android ecosystem is failure of Qualcomm to deliver and inability of Intel,AMD to step up. I would love an M1 equivalent in the Android world.

  3. great video as always! the length was great since you tested extensively every aspect of both! thanks!

  4. S-pen have replacements tips for less than 5 dollars the package. If you don’t like the size of the Spen, you can buy another, you forgot who make the s-pen (wasn’t samsung). And the most important part that you forgot to mention is that doesn’t need to be charged if you don’t want their gestures

  5. Great review man, nice long video with lots of information on both tablets. Keep up the good work and keep the great videos coming.

  6. Great info and video! I’m going from an IPad Pro 12.9 to S8 Ultra and I’m extremely happy…….

  7. I’ve kept my original iPad Pro 12.9 inches for years, it’s just great for me. But this new tablet from Samsung is what I’ve been waiting for a long time to be fair. Hopefully we can see more giant tablets enter the market in the near future.

  8. I’ve had the 12.9” M1 iPad Pro for almost a year now, and I LOVE it. That said, I wish Apple would expand multitasking functionality in iPadOS. Not necessarily like the Dex functionality Samsung has, but just expand on what iPadOS already has. And move the front camera to landscape mode. Those are the only two gripes that I have with it.

  9. Personal preference/bias made the conclusion of this comparison clear from the beginning but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given that this is a review from and iPad owner’s perspective. I do think you tried to be objective. But to me it was apparent that you were unable to overcome your preference for what you were used to in order to be truly objective. I do understand that is hard to do. You made some good points overall however I noticed that anything you said that was good about the iPad, your tone and inflection changed. It was lighter and happier. When you said something good about the Samsung you almost always followed it up with a… but the IPAD is overall better. For the record, I think your reivews are pretty good overall.

  10. I think you may have used the phrase dynamic range incorrectly as per the virtue of having an oled display with perfect blacks the Samsung display has more dynamic range. Whichever you prefer is fine but that terminology is important.

  11. Color gradation also seems to be better on the Samsung, its as if the iPad is using dithering or simply doesn’t account for variations as well.

  12. I’m all apple products. I bought the Tab S8+ and agree with you about the writing experience and software.

If only the tab s8 software a d writing was given to the m1chip with the ios keyboard and gestures.

It would be the ultimate tablet.

  13. You need your own independent channel. These vids are uniquely comprehensive and really well presented.

  14. If you have a Mac and an Apple phone then you’ll like the iPad Pro best. If you have a Windows PC and a Galaxy phone then the Tab S8 is by far the best choice. They both work great and have great screens. The Tab S8 is better for media streaming because 16×10 gives a much bigger effective screen. But that’s not enough to make it the better device for an Apple fan. I have an iPad Pro and am gladly replacing it with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra because it’s just going to work way better with my Samsung phone and Windows PC. But the iPad Pro has been a handy device for the last three years and had replaced my PC for a lot of tasks.

  15. Apple has never had much real tablet competition before now. One great thing about this tablet for Apple fans is that this will encourage Apple to improve their devices the same way the phone wars with Samsung have vastly improved both companies’ phones. I think that’s a win for all of us. Great review and done fairly.

  16. Performance difference is not an issue as either are more powerful than they can utilize anyway

  17. If you can get different types of the SPen tip, try it. There are the hard and soft ones. You’ll notice that there is a difference in the feel while you’re writing or drawing. It will affect your handwriting style too.
