30 Comments on Hands-on: HyperDrive Thunderbolt 3 USB-C Hub for MacBook Pro

  1. Seriously? buying USB hub for a 3-4k computer doesn’t make sense. I
returned mine. The 2015 is way better more versatile. Epic fail. Apple is
    going down really fast.

    • Why? The 2016 model has a much brighter display, thinner & lighter and has
infinitely better speakers (soooo much better than the terrible speakers on
the Macbook Pro 2015). But that said, the 2016 Macbook Pro has terrible
battery life. Expect about 1 HOUR, yes 1 HOUR of heavy workload. That’s
all. Just ONE hour. -.- Maybe two hours if you turn off the display lol.

    • Kameel I did experience the awful battery life but I also experience random
blacks and flickering on the screen due to bugs with the video card. The
screen is better than last year but the speakers were making a cracking
sound and it was louder from one side. The machine needs to be redesigned
make it fatter put all the ports and a huge battery and we are talking.
Apple has become obsessed with thinness. .

    • jennifergala You’re paying for the ability to have any port you desire at
the moment. You’re paying an early adopter premium for the USB-C/better
      wireless future.

    • +Andrew Kimberley The wireless future is well within this product’s
lifetime. Not the ultimate form of it but a well-functioning one. Something
has to usher it in. If nobody forces the industry nothing happens. Look how
long laptops took to climb out of the 1366×768 hell they were in. They sure
didn’t do it by themselves either, Apple forced it.

  2. This is basically what I think the future is. You connect everything to a
hub at your work; and when the day is done, just eject the hub and you have
    a full laptop.

  3. It bothers me that it doesn’t ship until March, yet you can find something
    similar on Amazon right now…

  4. they should adapt the style like satechi slim dongle (it shoudnt be flush
with macbook connecting hdmi cable wud be weird with this style of hub.tge
hub shud have a cable to connect with the mbp) and 2nd usb c shud be gen
    3.1

  5. Would have been nice to have an ethernet port, thunderbolt 2, a mic in &
optical audio out and maybe even a fw800 on it on it at the bottom. I mean,
if a single thunderbolt 1 cable could do usb, fw800, video & audio, camera
(see Apple thunderbolt display), then surely a single thunderbolt 3 would
have bandwidth for all this + more.

  6. awesome innovative and will try them out for it might be a for now life
safer in terms of adaption and connectivity

  7. $69 for a usb hub!? I wish Santa can give me one this year. also it’s quite
dangerous imo. I use stands, it can easily break my (only) 2 usb ports if I
accidentally put too much pressure on it.
