I can’t wait till this becomes more mainstream and I’d be able to use an external GPU on my MacBook pro as well as my desktop. Just unplug and replug depending on which computer needs the egpu at the moment.
Jeff when you switched to windows, did you have have to install drivers for that as well or does the Mac nvidia stuff just work?
You have to install the drivers. The OS’ are quarantined from each other.
If you use a external display, you will get better fps
+Shahzad Khan yep. The benchmarks show that, as does the in game experience. It’s usually not a drastic difference though.
hi, great video! Just to ask what is the different between this akitio and razer core? Ports different? Can i connect to external display via akitio?
+HowardFreeman Motivation Razor is more expensive, has more ports, and features old Ti chipset that requires a script to unlock on Mac. I’ll have to get one soon to test it out.
Snazzy Labs just roasted this solution as not cost-effective, even with Boot Camp. He says it’s cheaper to build a PC and put the card into it.
+Mark Davenport he makes a good point, but not everyone wants a separate PC.
That’s true. I don’t want a separate PC. I love that Boot Camp is the easiest way to use windows, period. Besides, if I buy the GFX card, I can build a PC around it later. My current limitation with eGPUs is I have a Thunderbolt 2 2012 MacBook Pro with a GeForce 650M already inside it. The bottlenecking in Thunderbolt 2 loses 20-50% performance according to his video, so I’d have to buy an expensive card to get anything out of it.
Dont listen to Snazzy at all please! It is NOWHERE near 20-50%. Check out egpu.io forums for proper info. Also you have notebook/MacBook already and you buy whatever GPU. Now you need eGPU box or whole PC without GPU. How is whole PC without GPU cheaper than eGPU box? No way imo. At least not in EU .)
It is only cheaper if you starting without any notebook/PC
Great info, thanks!
any smaller options?
thanks for the detailed benchmarks dude! was planning on getting an egpu setup, but was worried about the performance degradation from ‘piping’ back the signal
How much for your voice? It’s awesome
How about the new gots Titan Xp? That graphic card is made for the Macs.
Would you recommend using the 13 inch or 15 inch macbook pro for this?
13 inch macbook pro witch intel core i7 and intel 550 graphics
Name of the car game??

Why there is not a driver for mac?

Can you please make a Octane Render Benchmark on macOS? with this setup?
What’s about non-gaming applications like actual (video) rendering, after effects, blender etc.
