Love the new accessories! I have the previous generation magic keyboard & mouse, & I absolutely love them! I’ve never had the trackpad, but after seeing this video, I really want it for my iPad Pro. Thank you for your amazing video packed with so much helpful info as always!
I’m using the old wired Apple keyboard with numeric keypad, and my mouse is an inexpensive wireless, battery operated Macally model. Nothing fancy but they both work great and, importantly, I didn’t have any problem setting up my M1 Studio Max, both devices were detected during setup.
I have the Mini M1 and the same keyboard and trackpad in the video and I too was amazed with the zero hassle pairing, I didn’t have to do anything at all. I’ve also never once had a Bluetooth connectivity issue either. Only need to charge them once a month.
I’ve had the Magic keyboard 2 with Touch ID and numeric as well as the Trackpad 2 for about 6-7 months and absolutely love them both. I’ve had zero Bluetooth issues and only need to charge them every 3 to some times 4 weeks. My only con is that after 24 hrs of non use the Touch ID is disabled and you have to sign in to re-enable the Touch ID but it’s not a big deal in my opinion.
They’re both pair very nicely with the Mac Mini M1
A stand-alone TouchID device would be an odd duck. So small that it might be difficult to fit a decent battery. That said, I like the idea of a built-in TouchID; how about placing one underneath the surface of the Magic Trackpad? If it’s implemented similar to the method suggested for supplemental two-factor biometric authentication on the iPhone, then it would both (1) look great [i.e. unintrusive, minimalistic] and (2) address battery issues with a really small stand-alone device.
I picked up the new Keyboard just for Touch ID and the trackpad, very happy with them. They match my MX Master 3 mouse quite well, just can’t seem to use the mouse for very long… I’ve tried as I have an older one but just too painful after a while.
As for Magic Mouse charging, I purchased a 3D-printed stand on which the mouse can perch while it charges. One overnight charge and it’s good to go for several months of use.
The one thing about the magic mouse is that the battery life last very long so charging it underneath is not really a problem because you can charge it from 0 to 100 when you’re sleeping and it lasts for a very long time something like the Apple TV remote the old and new last a very long time I have all three
I love the silver and black — just wish you could get it with the smaller keyboard. I gave up my mouse when the trackpad came out years ago.
Magic Mouse is perfect for my small hands. I wouldn’t change a thing—except, of course, for the idiotic way it charges. The best part about it is the fact that the surface of the mouse serves as a trackpad when it comes to scrolling. I can’t imagine using a mouse with a scroll wheel.
YES … standalone Touch ID would be great. I have no reason to replace perfectly good keyboard that is only 2 years old but I would love the Touch ID feature
I find the Magic Mouse to be very ergonomic. I’ve never had a problem with fatigue. I get it more when using a track pad. That said.. Sure, they could implement a better placement for the port, or better yet, give it wireless charging or MagSafe options, but It doesn’t bother me that much.. It charges fairly quickly!
Here’s a quick tip to use any keyboard with Touch ID; tape the Magic Keyboard to the underside of the desk and reach down there with your index finger. It helps that the Touch ID button is indented. I do this and it’s awesome.

My original magic mouse from 2011 is about to did and I’ve been wondering if there would be better options available. On my Windows machines I’ve used all kinds of mouses but on Mac the gestures just work so well that they are just impossible to leave behind
Well, before they were dropped off of Apple, Inc.’s web site, I picked-up both a track-pad and mouse in “black/space gray”. Which, I think look better than the new versions which, now come in the two tone colors of black and silver. As for the keyboard, I prefer to use either my vintage wired G4 Black keyboard, my vintage wired G5 White keyboard, or my vintage wireless blue-tooth Intel mac White keyboard. Each of these vintage mechanical keyboards is full size with an included number pad on the right (smile…smile).
A redesigned Magic Mouse with more rounded ergonomics and a magic keyboard with backlight are my dream mac accessories.
Glad to see the silver Macs getting some love. Every accessory I see today seem to be in space gray.
I like the new black finish for these accessories. I use the Magic Keyboard and Trackpad along side my iPad Pro. Sadly the black finish keyboard only works with Mxx Macs. Hey Apple, about offering black across all the input accessories line up. Thanks Jeff, great review as always.
The Logitech MX Master 3 would probably solve all of your problems and a few that you didn’t even know you had. I prefer the 3 to the 3s because I like a clicky mouse and the 3s is practically silent. Either way, their functionality is almost identical and is the stuff of dreams. Also feels very future proof and durable unless some insane advance comes out. It’s like equivalent of the AudioTechnica M50x. Iykyk.
the problem with magic mices is the weight distribution. weirdly every version of magic mice have the frontal part over weight, making them uncomfortable to move on the desk. unlike any other mouse which in general have the main weight put at the rear part of the mouse. thats why, magic mice are always felt as nose down when hold flat in air.
That’s such a nice looking keyboard. I’ve just bought the silver 24” M1 iMac, and I’m struggling a bit with the keyboard: mid-grey letters on creamy-white keys, with a highly reflective silver background. Not easy on the eyes! I’m used to my old black keys keyboard on my 2013 MacBook Air, and the natural aluminium background on that is not as reflective.
