I love my blue HomePod mini , the sound is surprisingly good for such a small factor. And I find Siri smart enough. Don’t want a google product spying on me (at least , this is what I believe)
Don’t blame you.
I love the HomePod minis. I’ve never listened to an original HomePod though. I use mine in a stereo pair for my Apple TV. For a lot of movies it was lacking that low end, which is a given because of their small form factor. So I got a klipsch 10 inch sub and connected it to an airport express second generation, added it in there with the HomePods and it helped tremendously.
AirPort express, I miss those…
Also Original HomePod works as hub for homekit when you are away from home and the sounds is on another level! Only 2 things are better on the mini; the colors (if you are interested in) and thread (if the support of matter protocol will take over. Now there are only just a few accessories that work with it)
I would love to have Refreshed OG HomePod with new chips. Apple can Rebrand it: HomePod Pro.
They are just better in sound quality, but OG HomePod can’t recognize person’s voice using hey Siri like the mini’s 6 people voice recognizing feature.
The original homepod has super clean soft sound only problem are the highs and the overall tuning because many detail gets lost and the bass is way to prominant
Also a 3 d soundstage would have been the best evening out
My HomePod Biggie bricked because of an update too. (Possibly the same update)
I called Apple explained my situation and they just replaced it no questions asked, no warranty, no AppleCare+. The rep said and a quote “we have a warehouse of these saved for cases like this.
So yours bricked because of what Apple did and you just shrugged your shoulders and said “oh well”?!?
Mine bricked during an update too and all I got was free recycling.
Hope they make HomePod again. Just a little bit larger for a better sound. And a smarter Siri that also understand what you are saying.
Honestly, I love my HomePod mini. It is a perfect size with awesome sound, before getting it after my birthday I pondered on it for quite a while on if I was going to get the OG HomePod or the HomePod mini and in the end I decided to get the HomePod mini because of it’s cheaper price tag which was an awesome choice. Anyways, not even a week after I ordered my HomePod mini they discontinued the OG HomePod. Very ironic I must say.
First Jeff we missed you, second I’m watching on the new M1 Maxbook and wow your HDR is blowing some serious light through my skull. Great review as always.
I’m seriously considering buying one. I didn’t know this existed until yesterday. I have the Echo, but honestly I don’t like Amazon’s electronics, and being we have IPhones and an IPad in the house would make this more functional to us vs. the echo
I bought two original Homepods years ago and they still stay in boxes. I used them like once or twice… I still like the old design better though, very powerful sound. I hope they have better colors too.
Yo I will buy them from you? Can you message me?
@Dillon Younts Sorry.Already sold.
My ideal HomePod lineup:
-HomePod Mini
-HomePod (Regular)
– HomePod Max
The speakers do look and sound cool, I just wished they were Bluetooth instead of Apple’s horrible AirPlay. I’m a long time Apple user, I remember when AirPlay first came out in 2003. The music would cut out 3-5 times a day. Fast forward to 2020, I’m locked in my apartment, I’m hearing nothing buy good things about the Homepods, so I bought a HomePod (real cheap after they stopped selling them) and a Mini. 19 years later and the music still cuts out 3-5 times a day. Doesn’t matter if it’s Spotify or Apple music. I want to scream, I’m nerever buying an AirPlay device ever again.
I own 2 Home Pods and 1 Home Pod Mini. The mini is OK for its size but I have no intention of buying another one. It sounds pretty good but It just doesn’t compare to the Home Pod. I would like an updated Home Pod. Now that the mini is out and selling well I think an updated Home Pod 2 or whatever they decide to call it would sell better now that the public is more familiar with these things.
They could probably price it at $250 – $280 and at least break even. The real benefit will be a reason to purchase apple services like Music, plus these nice sounding speakers are just one more reason to stay in the Apple ecosystem.
Did you test handoff with an iPhone? I tried to buy one of these with a home family setup and handoff was shaky at best. It would work for me, but not for others. Startup was slow and not immediately available for handoff, as you don’t know its boot state. And for others hand-off would just sit there. Not sure if we had too many devices in the same room but because of that the device had to go back. It was my hopeful resolution to an aging and dying ipod touch. Let me know
I love my HomePod mini, i would love to get another one for other parts of my house. I love the convenience of homekit also.
What I am looking forward to is buying a color matched pair of minis and using them paired as stereo in conjunction with my iMac of the same color.
*It’s perfect for me. The size is exactly **Newest.Technology** what I needed. The sound is loud enough for me to hear without having to turn it higher. Suggestions on various uses is extremely helpful! Worth every dollar spent!*
