Funny, people said that since the Recovery Partition was introduced with OS X El Capitan, Apple removed the sudo command.
Ok I know this process but why doesn’t apple make it straightforward ? Like an option to create an installer with one click ?

Jeff, how did you format your “Macintosh SSD” the way you have it? It’s orange, and says SSD instead of HD.
You simply rename it in Finder or via Disk Utility. It’s orange because I’m booting from an external drive. See last week’s video for details on what I’m using: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGvnSxIVTvw

I have OS X Yosemite on my 12 inch MacBook. I can do this with El Capitan and then have both Yosemite and El Capitan? All I would need to run El Capitan is that thumb drive?

Hi Jeff, can u teach how to install Windows 10 to the external hdd which can be booted with macOS.
After your instructions on USB do i need to erase the hard drive or just hit install.
I loaded the installer onto an external SSD drive, I restarted and started the install process but when I tried to install I got an error message ‘Disk Locked’ so I cannot install High Sierra to that external SSD drive. Any ideas what I have done wrong?
Top Cat try reformatting the ssd
Top Cat or run the install app on your mac and try and install it onto the external ssd. Then you have a beta drive and a normal one
Terminal did the format so I assume it was done correctly.
Having wiped the wrong drive years ago and losing too much I am averse to playing around too much in that department. Thanks for the advice though, I am still considering it. Cheers
