The new Magic Keyboard folio for the iPad 10 brings some new add ons that I wish the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard had. But is it better?

How does that folio compare the the logitech version?
To me they look quite similar. I use the Logitech on an iPad Air 4th Gen, and I’m happy with it. Good travel, and not as expensive, the iPad is protected in tablet-mode. For me the Logitech Combo Touch does the trick for me. And we have a sort of function keys as well.
I can’t stand the folio keyboard style. Kickstands just don’t work for me.
Yah that was what I was thinking. When I’m in the car or have it on my lap, it always falls.
Fantastic video, both of these really trigger my OCD, I never brought my Magic Keyboard because it weighs as much as another iPad, for just a keyboard! – it’s a shame this new one is no better. It really feels like a MacBook is a better choice if you want a keyboard – I’ve settled on M1 Macbook Pro + iPad Mini with Pencil 2 as a best of both worlds without carrying what is essentially a paperweight.
The combo of a laptop + ipad mini is still lighter than an iPad 12.9″ with a magic or folio keyboard!
For me it has always been third party keyboard/case for my iPad’s over the years. The ones I like these days are the ones that rotate 360 degrees, and allow the iPad to lay flat and cover the keyboard keys. Use it in this mode to read content, and use the pencil.
Also like the fact they do not have a flap on the back to hold the screen up when on a desk. Thing is this type of case can sit on my lap.
what case do you have
I can’t believe the new folio isn’t backlit! That’s pathetic.
I really like that there are many different keyboard styles for iPad. I just wish they were designed to work with each iPad so people could actually select the one they prefer for the iPad they prefer.
Ok….I didn’t realize other people use the on your chest viewing position. This attention to detail is why Fernando is my iPad expert of note. Whoever decides his salary…please double it.
Since the iPad 10 cannot stand on its own and requires the use of the backplate that alone makes it a no go for me.
I’m torn. Love the function keys and the larger trackpad. But the Magic Keyboard is better in every other way
Good reviews!! I noticed both cases have different edge curves I guess larger iPad Pro 12.9 has a nice edge curves than small one. No?
Thank you for this comparison; I just got the 2021 M1 12.9 and currently shopping the Magic. Something I’ve seen elsewhere, but haven’t tried (as I don’t have magic yet) are two ways to use pencil with Magic – perhaps you will try them both and let us know what you think: 1) leave Magic in normal orientation but lift off the iPad and slide it down so the lower edge of iPad sits below the keys and rests on the raised lip just above the trackpad, the top rests against the magnetic back (doubt it magnetically “grabs” – but appears stable to write/draw in this configuration). 2) turn Magic upside down so keys perpendicular facing you and slide an iPhone in the gap (between iPad edge and keyboard keys) to prevent the iPad/magnetic back from flattening. Both of these “appear” to provide some writing/drawing angled stability – not advertised by Apple; I saw both from other YouTubers. Also, different topic, and I’ll check your channel – if you may discuss in another video – what is the white bodied adjustable light (long and thin) on your desk? Is this for webcam use – or just a desk light? You appear to have a window behind/alongside your chair and I have huge windows behind my chair (real webcam lighting challenge). Thanks again, very pleased channel subscriber – you offer great/helpful info.
UPDATE, received the Apple Magic Keyboard today (new version), both of these “pencil-use” hacks work well. One has more “angle” for writing than the other – think I prefer the latter (upside down approach). The Apple Magic Keyboard seems to open much easier than the Combo touch – and works just fine with the Pitaka case.
I just wish the magic keyboard had a detachable back so that I can keep the ipad protected while it’s removed. And function keys ofc
Thank you. I was very curious about this exact thing. I have a 12.9″ Pro with the Magic Keyboard. I like it, but hate the fact that the back is not protected when taken out of the keyboard case. The folio solves that if it eve comes to the Pro lineup.
Thanks, all my questions answered, and then some. Vid work good as well. Happy trails
Magic Keyboard is only $200 at Walmart
