Is powerfull but like iPhone apps are optimized for the hardware and runs smoother/better when less
I’ve enjoyed this series. I don’t 100% agree with every conclusion, but it is refreshing how balanced and fact based the coverage has been. You easily could have pointed to benchmarks and called it a conclusive win for the iPad but that wouldn’t necessarily have been a reasonable takeaway. M1 might actually be overkill for a tablet. It doesn’t mean it isn’t great, but it doesn’t mean it is necessarily *always* fully utilized.
@acadiachair you are right, but we are talking about ipad os and android on a tablet. And at the same price samsung has nothing to offer
@acadiachair why are u here then if you don’t care about gpu performance
@acadiachair Seriously? If your use case is games then…drum roll please…BUILD OR BUY A DESKTOP GAMING RIG!
@acadiachair Lmao, Intel processors would suck inside tablets like they do laptops..
Even the tab s8 ultra doesn’t utilizes the snapdragon 8 gen 1 utilizes at the max 50% of the power, samsung can utilize the m1 power if they made samsung dex more like a desktop. Tech reviewers call it a powerful features I can it a powerful trash because once samsung brought dex asides from bringing wireless dex they pretty much left that feature alone and never made any change. Samsung dex Is not really samsung dex it’s samsungs dumb version of windows launcher and in Google play store their are 3ʳᵈ party apps that can do quite more than what samsung dex offers. Dex need enhancements.
Can you also test app compatibility?
The App Store has hundred of thousands app optimized for iPad, meaning that the developers uploaded a “special” app with different features regarding the ui (compared to iPhone) . Instead on Samsung Tabs, it seems that the apps are exactly the same as they would appear on a smartphone if put horizontally, corresponding to a less appealing experience (there are some exceptions)
Love your comparisons of these devices. I love good competition in the market
Fun fact, the M1 is almost 1.5 years old CPU… We can still see the difference between the M1 and the latest (2gen younger) SD CPU
@Faizan Khalid “No one cares…”….speak for yourself……The power gets used, just not all of it now…..The Original Ipad Pro released in 2015 with the A9X is getting it’s 7th Major OS Update in 2022….and might get an 8th major update next year…Literally every Ipad pro ever released from the original in 2015 is getting Ipad OS 16….Apple always distinguishes their “Pro” Tablets, and now Air…..by giving them a CPU/GPU that is almost or twice as fast as it’s current flagship smartphones…..where as android tablets drag and drop phone chips into their pro tablets…..It took the 2021 5nm+ A15 Bionic to match up against the 2018 7nm A12X…….The M1 is basically a rebranded A14X with thunderbolt on board.
Even the 2018 A12X has a faster CPU than Android’s best 2022 Snapdrago 8 Plus Gen 1…and a GPU that’s only slightly slower on paper.
It matters now too though, the single core performance tears through web browsing, opening apps etc, the video encoders/decoders along with the CPU allow silky smooth 4K video editing.
Even in games, thanks to it’s GPU that is twice as fast as Androids best with double the bus width and double the memory speed…….quadrupling the bandwidth, it can play call of duty and genshin impact at up to 120fps compared to android……That’s thanks to it’s powerful CPU as higher framerates require more CPU power.
Overall the M1 tablets are beasts and will receive major updates for at least 6 to 8 Years…….with easily 10 years total with extra security updates.
@Mr. Cooper The M1 is a rebranded A14X with thunderbolt…..but it’s powerful enough to run desktop apps in less constrained form factors. Performance matters…….I hate how people bash the M1 Ipads for not running “Pro apps”…….forgetting the Ipads have much smaller, thinner chasis, with smaller batteries. They are not meant for that type of workload.
@Landon It is a desktop-class SoC
@ Muhammad Uwais Muhsin Muaz its an overclocked iPhone chip that they put in a laptop and desktop
@Landon So?
you do need to remember that the m1 is 1.5 years old and it still bets the s8 ultra
the m2 ipad pro will obliterate the s8 ultra (if it didnt already)
bro the m1 is overkill nobody can you’s that mutch power
I think most of the logical people have already said this. There’s no point just looking at benchmarks when all the M1 chip is doing is being bottlenecked. On paper it looks amazing yeah but being limited like this is not the way to go. Yeah I would agree the price of the M1 iPad’s hardware only could be worth due to its innovative all in 1 cpu, but other than that it’s definitely not worth it. Considering I’ve used the iPad and tried getting the M1 only to use it for a week and return it due to the money’s just not worth when I can just use a laptop or PC instead. Yeah people can say “you can’t compare tablets to pc” but like, a tablet is where it’s easy for you to take around and to have you choose something smaller yet still powerful so you are able to move away from pc but still able to do partial of the tasks you can do on pc. The iPad just doesn’t even come to close of 20% of what you can do on the pc with all of the poor file management systems, air tight ecosystem and all, all it is is a Netflix device for me and it’s a bit disappointing imo.
Digital Drawing on the iPad Pro, being able to use the Apple Pencil, being able to hook up a DAC amp and good IEMS and do some music production or watch Content, a Book for reading, a gaming device, connect it to an MPC One and do some serious music production jams, oh….did I forget…Digital Drawing?
The iPad is a revolutionary device in how compact and futuristic it is all at the same time maintaining power, performance, reliability, battery (100 W charger makes life much easier)….connect to a controller, mouse and keyboard for perform other office related tasks. Perhaps I forgot to mention…Digital Drawing? Don’t diss the iPad Pro….It has come a long way and it is a perfect device for someone like me who prefers the ease of use when it comes to creative content creation and other things. The iPad Pro is a champ!
Thank you very much for your time running all those tests I really appreciate it.
Bro this HDR video quality is really awesome
Wow. This makes me want to cancel my pre order tbh. But then again, the Pen and Keyboard came with the the S8 Ultra, and with the iPad Pro, they are both separate costs. It’s just crazy how an outdated processor can blow a new processor out of the water. My tablet doesn’t arrive for a few more months since I pre ordered at the last minute, so it gives me more time to think about canceling my order, and I must say, I’m very very tempted after watching this. Especially considering we own the iPad Pro already lol. If I don’t cancel my order in the next few weeks, I probably ain’t going to. But if I do, I’m probably just going to save and wait for the iPad Pro with M1 Pro chip to come out.
I think the two deciding factors would be: the specific use you will be giving to your future tablet. In my case, taking a lot of handwritten notes, Apple Pencil is a far better experience than the S Pen, even if I have to pay extra for it. The second deciding factor is iPadOS vs Android. Since I use an iPhone, AirDrop is the killer feature.
Greetings, I hope you’ll be satisfied with your final decision 🙂
Gaming performance on 8Gen1 is very similar to A12Z based on this benchmark…showing how powerful ipad pro can be while android tablet is still way behind in terms of performance but i love how samsung UI is more productive than ipados
That a12z is an a12x from 2018, insane for its age
@Germanguy apple’s chipset is better than snapdragon in performance, energy efficiency
@Joyson Baretto yup 100% agree
@Joyson Baretto SoC from apples are in general a level ahead then anyone even dimensity
@Germanguy i do hope so, their budget for r&d is insane!
As long as the S8 Ultra is powerful enough to play SNES and PS1 emulators smoothly I’m in.
I would to buy both of them. They are very very good for a digital painting.
After 3 years, the ipad won’t be an overkill while tab s8u would be outdated.
The hardware is better in the iPad but I just cannot deal with the Apple ecosystem. So I ended up buying the Samsung s8 Ultra. If I have the chance to make the choice again I will still get the Samsung.
Unfortunately I really wish Apple opens up more ram for safari to take advantage of. I could run my giant Figma file on my s22 ultra and tab s8 ultra, but iPadOS does not allow apps to use a large amount of ram and would simply crash. What is the use of a super fast chip if I can’t run large programs?…
This channel deserves more views.
I have the m1 ipad. It’s insanely fast.
I have the iPad Pro. It still doesn’t have proper external monitor support even with iPad OS 16.1. I’ve been waiting for months. The Galaxy Tab with Dex makes all that easy with good multitasking. I know this because it works well with my old Galaxy S20 phone.
