I’m pretty sure the EU mandate mentioned that devices that are big enough to fit a USB-C port must have one. Apple can’t just remove the port unless the devices either too small &/or too thin to fit a USB-C port. And right now, Apple has until Fall 2024 to switch all of their remaining devices to USB-C.
@9to5Mac Isn’t there rumors of the US pushing to standardize to USB C as well ?
Yeah, AirPods Pro refresh every 2-3 years so having EU block off sales due to regulation would hurt them. I think it’s pretty concrete in my mind they’d remove lightning entirely and move to USB-C.
@Zveebo But that would require Apple to make the iPhone too thin to the point where a USB-C port wouldn’t fit, & going thin at all costs didn’t work out so well with the iPhone 6.
@Neoxon No, they can just choose not to include it.
@Zveebo Actually no, the EU is also voting on a bill that would prevent wireless charging only on devices unless and ONLY unless they are too thin to fit a USB-C port.
If they add wing tips then I can get a pair and actually use them as they might actually stay in my ears instead of falling out like all the other iterations do.
I had to buy one of those for my Airpods Pro cuz otherwise i would have had to returned them.
They can finally stay on my ear while running and jumping.
my biggest issue with 3rd party wing tips is that it doesnt let you place them back in the case easily to charge
@9to5Mac I agree and that’s why I haven’t been using them. I’ve been using a pair of behind the ear air buds by J Lab for the past several years now.
@9to5Mac No matter, i leave them On and let the lid semi-open no biggy. The ones i use are slim enough so the case still closes enough that it doesn’t bother at all on my pocket.
The ONLY issue is that it pops on the iPhone screen whenever y have them close.
just buy comply memory foam tips
I doubt we’ll see much redesign till late 2023 when Apple has to switch to USB C for the EU market. They will also probably future proof themselves when the US also enforces a standard charging connector. Personally I think it’s way past time to get rid of the Lightning connector, so we’ll have to wait and see what Apple decides to do engineering and design wise. Price wise, I wouldn’t be surprised to see closer to $300 for the new release of Air Pods Pro due to supply chain and inflation issues. I think the sales and discounts we are seeing for the current Air Pods Pro is to clear out current inventory to get ready for the new stuff coming out later this year or early next.
@Neoxon knowing apple they will probably wait till the last possible date to switch to USB C. By then the US Government may also pass something in Congress to require Apple to switch to USB C as well. It’ll be interesting to see how what Apple does with this.
@Tuco Erquilenne The iPhone is expected to switch over next year according to those in the know.
@Neoxon We’ll see what happens. Personally I don’t think Apple will switch over till next year when it gets closer to the EU deadline.
@Tuco Erquilenne I said next year, not this year. We’re in agreement.
Tuco Salamanca!!!
Most people use apple music or spotify for streaming these days, even on 5G there are constant fluctuations and then there are storage space contraints with most people, also, over 70percent listeners can’t differentiate between a fully loseless track and a nicely mixed n mastered compressed audio track. I dont think lossless itself is an upgrade worth enough buying a new model
Lossless will only be worth it if you have premium subscriptions on your music services, since free ones have lower quality audio, but in that case you can simply download music for no fluctuations.
@Aarya_Gaming yea but as i mentioned, lots n lots of people have storage space constraints and huge libraries, down illogicaling lossless can acquire a lot of space too, i dont think it will appeal the masses
I’m hoping they give 50% more battery
True, 4,5 hours is a joke :/ comparing to other brands
I’m using AirPods 2 for many years. I switched to AirPods 3 but I will return them tomorrow. They don’t stay in my ears at all , I lost both of them during a 4km run this morning. So I’m gonna stick with my AirPods 2 or I will buy a pair of air pods pro at 250$ Canadian at Costco this week
I am waiting to see if I can get AirPods Pro 2.
First time seeing this guy. Enjoy his presentation style. Just gotta work on the editing (and sound level of the 9to5 chime).
I’m mostly waiting for any improvement in noise cancellation. Sony updated noise cancellation in their newest over the ear headphones: the wh-1000xm5. Noise cancellation isn’t at the level of a good pair of ear protection yet so I think there is still room for improvement with this technology.
i agree!
Saving up for the AirPods Pro 2! Great info… thanks for the insight!!
No problem!
I feel like adding health features is a good excuse to keep the battery levels at 4-6 hours. Hope they put more focus on battery life because ~4 hours is pretty bad compared to the competition.
Get the competition then. Sorted.
Why doesn’t the carrying case include FindMy functionality when the case is shut, whether the earbuds are in the case or not?
Have you heard the TOZO NC2? I currently have those. They have anc, pass through, turn off when removed from ear and wireless charging. If the sound is about the same I see no point changing yet. Trying to find some one with AP pro that will let me try them haha
What about the music sound quality? Is it expected to get substantially better than the first Gen?
we will find out!
Bro I really need this. I jumped into a pool without realizing that I had mine in my pocket and they won’t charge. Hopefully they’re announced at the event
bluetooth does not support loseless audio by any mean, however apple implied they are going to find “the other way”to go Over that
I like comparing the leaks and rumors to the actual AirPods Pro which I just pre-ordered.
