31 Comments on DO NOT BUY M2 MacBook Air, Here’s Why!

  1. The new 15 inch Air looks cool, but I got the M1 MacBook Air last weekend at Best Buy for $799. It just seemed like a better deal for me, I don’t know if the new ones will be any better value for the money.

    • So what do you actually know AND made you feel that you have to post? Because this is something we didn’t figure out.

    • @RidgeValentine The 15 inch Air just seems like it will be a bigger more expensive version of the 13 inch M2 MacBook Air.

I got to compare the M2 and M1 MacBook Airs in Best Buy. Seems like the higher price tag of the M2 MBA is for the updated design, but there really doesn’t seem to be much of a performance gain.

I also figured that a 15 inch laptop will probably be even more expensive. So I think $799 for an entry level MacBook will be hard to beat, even when the new ones get released.

But who knows, the Mac Mini got a price cut with the new release. Maybe the MBA will get the same treatment.

    • I got the same laptop as yours. I needed a laptop now and no one knows when the new MBA will be launched. It’s price will also be closer to some pro models in India so that will create more confusion. M1 chip is already a drastically better processor. So time, money and performance, all these things are very much on the side of the M1 MBA.

  2. Portability is also dependent on volume with weight, 15inch MBA will just take more space in my Hands and my Bag!
So yeah M2MBA13″ would just be fine for most of the guys.

    • @Hanjie Tang and if you already have monitors? I assume you mean get a new laptop and get a new monitor because Apple choose to limit the performance? I am a Macstudio user by the way so have no bias against Apple just because they are Apple.

    • You”re stuck with having to use a Display Link adapter for extra monitors. I wanted 4k120hz on my M1 Pro and the base M2. Sadly they are too cheap to add HDMI 2.1.

    • Really going to need some support for my dual LG UltraFine 4K monitors or it’s going to be another pass

  3. I bought the 13” M2 MBA because it was within my budget and I needed it now to last for the next 5-7 years.

    • It’ll probably feel a bit slow by the end of that time period but it’ll definately be within usable performance. I’m just about able to tolerate a 2017 dual core MacBook for most things and some people still use 2013 era MacBooks with a little software trickery.

  4. Most who choose Airs over Pros want portability? I can totally hear next reviews saying “I bought a 15’ but it’s too big.”

There are endless looped reviews of “here is a new great MacBook” -> “mind-blowing” -> “but the old model is just fine” -> “but the new model will be supported for a year longer” -> “I hear a rumor” -> “don’t buy, wait for a new model.”

  5. Don’t forget the 15 has more room in it. For bigger battery, but also a bigger better speaker system!!

  6. i would get the 15″ if it’s only a $100 increase, with the added benefits of the battery.
if it’s $200 more, than i’ll just the MBP 14 : It has better screen with mini LED, better processor, better ports.
The bigger size’s MBA only benefit is the bigger screen and better battery, not enough to win it over the MBP14 if the prices are too close.

  7. I think they will do 15′ M2 and save the M3 for the Mac Pro. Everyone seems to forget about the Mac Pro. I could see Apple keeping the M3 exclusive to the pro for a year.

  8. I am and have been in the market for a MBA M2 for a month or so now but I have been holding off in anticipation for this 15″ version to come out. I really hope it does because I want to buy one right now!

    • Than wait for M3 in the fall, or wait for M4, or maybe M5, or M17 in 2042? LOL
Just buy one now, never wait when it comes to MacBooks, or you will end up waiting forever.

  9. Isn’t this what’s always going to be said? “Wait for the next one. It’ll do more.” That’s what’s been said since I bought my first computer in 1980. I would’ve never bought a computer if I listened to them.

    • True, though I do take it with more thought now, particularly I bought the last A series iPad Pro and Apple unexpectedly came out with the M1 iPad Pro 2 months after I bought the last gen. So I was bummed especially as the greater display support is only on the M chips

  10. I am debating getting the M2 or M3 MBA. I think I could wait till June but if it’s going to be released later then I will probably just get the M2. My main reason for not getting an M2 now is because of thermal performance. I heard it wasn’t that great.
