No OLED screen, no dynamic island because Apple can’t cutout a hole in the ~15 years old LCD screen!
The cutouts on the MacBook Pros are LCD screens. Mini-LED is a more advanced LCD with really tiny backlights. The 13” MBA is a conventional LCD screen with a cutout. Notches aren’t really any different than pills.
@Tech In RL It would be technically and optically a disaster for Apple! Everyone would call it the blooming pill and not dynamic island. The idea is cool but I’m pretty sure it’s not an option for Apple.
@Shahin Miah No! LCD with mini LED backlight.
@Arsh Pure software solution would alienate it without a camera and Face ID.
@Samuel the face id already gives alienated feeling to the iphones. Nobody wants it, apple is forcing it on us !
they should get rid of faceid components on ipad and therefore they will be able to make the borders thin.
I like to read my iPad in portrait mode. If they put the camera on the long side, that is going to seriously impact FaceID for me because that is where my hand would be. I don’t like that idea. There needs to be 2 cameras.
Dynamic Island was a software solution to solve a problem caused by the FaceID components in the IPhone. Why the heck would they create a problem that IPad does not have since all FaceID components fit in the bezel? That’s nonsense.
Only reason would be to be able to fit the faceID sensors, magnets and apple pencil charger in landscape orientation
It also solved like a million Ui inconsistencies
Exactly!
I agree, because apple keep it simple.
If you play music when working, it would be nice to be able to access the controls in a more interactive way though. Maybe in a minimised sort of island that you could place where you want. Like the pencil features in notes.
They should have a software update on the M1 or A12XYZ iPad Pro models for the Dynamic Island.
Please, no Dynamic Island or notch on the iPad Pro. I would like to see the camera on top on landscape mode, but if that requires a notch or island to accomplish with the magnets for the pencil, I’ll live with the camera where it is. I don’t understand the obsession with super slim to no bezels on everything (resulting in your hand blocking more of the screen when held anyway) which would require the need for a notch to accommodate a camera. But that’s just me.
Beautiful and useful on Landscape, but what happens when you use the iPad with vertical orientation? The screen will have less bezels ok, but the result will be the sensors of face id & camera will be moved from the useless spot of a bezel to a usefull section of the screen… Even if we focus to how beautiful the dynamic island will look on the landscape, imagine rotating the iPad and having this black section on your right hand (or even worse, the pop up windows appearing exactly where you are writing and minimizing to the right part of the screen instead of throwing them away with a swipe up).. Personally I think that the Bezels should stay as they are (with the FaceID/Camera sensors staying to the same place). After all they work in both ways (vertical and landscape) so there is no need to move them. And the solution is bringing the Dynamic Island as a special software feature to the new iPad Pro’s. That way, the dynamic island will appear always in the top of the screen even if you rotate the device. There is not need to hide the Face ID on the dynamic island because there is already enough space in the top bezel. In the iPhone the things are a little bit different because there is no space to hide the FaceID in such small bezels. So my conclusion is that they should introduce it without cutting the actual screen shape in order to work easily in both ways (landscape and vertical). The Bezels are already in a great size that allows you to hold the device.
Really hope they don’t do that. It would keep me from buying one. I have the 14 pro max and I love it, but I don’t use it for games or movies. I would hate that obtrusion on the ipads screen.
I cannot see the dynamic island going to the M2 IPad Pro. Remember Apple has separate iPhone and iPad development teams and therefore new features on the iPhone do not usually make their way to the iPad until at least one year later
Like DI though I was very sceptical at first. Still it is not must have for me. It is cute but can live without.
On the other hand I totally disagree with camera on iPad to be in landscape dimension! I like it where it is and eye tracking welds my eyes on a viewer on the other side.. I hope in next ai I iteration it could adhere my behaviour seen by the viewers like I actually care.. but leave it where it is.. I use it half half.. half keyboard landscape half portrait.. rather add secondary camera option (hardware hanger) for your iPhone to achieve that.
I also hate stage manager which is confusing and really really bad.. just give me full screen connected second apps on the additional screen with the same features of Split View and flyover like double real estate.. make it discoverable and maintained as Mission Control and DO NOT make laptop out of amazing iPad! If you like to use laptop like use MacBook!! So much better.
Hello. I have an iPad Pro 11” from 2018 and I see it as somewhat slow and above all very lacking in RAM memory for some time. The truth is that I can’t stand to have my apps restart and lose data or whatever I was doing or reading, so I’m considering making a change. I’m a graphic and web designer, and I do everything that involves designing and creating content with the Mac (I recently bought the 14″ M1 Pro base model), and I use the iPad more as a complement to the Mac, to consume content and for productivity. I had thought about the 2021 iPad Pro 12.9″ M1, but I think it would be too big for me, so I think I’d go for a new 11″ model (I’m not sure about the size though). I have doubts, especially seeing the rumors of the future M2 with more power and battery (I hope the latter). I don’t know if it’s worth investing in the M1 right now or waiting for the M2. Do you think the new iPad Pro will come out next month? And above all, will the price go up a lot, both the iPad itself and the accessories? Considering I have the Apple Pencil 2, the keyboard case is discounted on Amazon and I could sell/trade in my 2018 model for more than when the new ones come out. The only thing that encourages me to wait for the new models is that logically they will have more updates and support, apart from a little more power. What would you do in my place? Thank you!
why do you want an iPad upgrade that complements your already great mac. if your using it for little stuff I say hold onto your current ipad and use your mac for heavier tasks. use universal control feature thats cool. if you still want a new ipad pro for some reason, then just wait for the new ones that will be refreshing sometime this fall
@00Z I usually use the iPad as a productivity or leisure complement to the MacBook, and the truth is that for some time now I have noticed it very lacking in RAM, since the apps restart and I lose information when I move from one to another, and for that I consider an iPad with more RAM. The issue is that I live in Europe and I’m afraid that the new ones with M2 are going to go up in price a lot, both the iPad and the Magic Keyboard and other accessories. For all this, I have doubts about whether to buy the model with M1 now, delivering or selling mine, knowing that I have plenty of power for a few years and especially knowing the current prices. The truth is that according to rumours, the only thing that worries me about the new models is the chip, because surely later on they will make the M1 obsolete by software and there will be exclusive options for the M2, and above all the support and updates . All this is what makes me doubt, but anyway thanks for your opinion!
I like to see a better taskbar at the top without a camera hole or notch
dynamic island on ipad mini should be super great
Thanks for the great reviews. Will I be able to setup the m1 iPad Pro in landscape but have the external display in landscape orientation on the new OS ? Thanks
