So far the way I use notes Freeform in no way would replace it, if they are not careful they will create an app that does too much and then the app becomes useless certainly from a notes perspective, I hope this doesn’t happen.

It’s a wonderful tool, but what does it do, that I could not do b4? I can already use the Notes app, Safari etc that u showed, but what would compel me to go into this app to do them there rather than on the desktop?
Mixed feelings on this, some of us add creatives need things to snap into place to help keep more linear clean and organized. Great intro vid!
Good to see Apple entering this product category. Figma (recently acquired by Adobe) is a fantastic product that is similar yet as way more features for collaboration (on top of being cross platform) and that targets professionals mostly. I guess Apple is just targeting the mainstream Apple consumer here with no intention to overtake the incumbent given how good their products already are
This is for M1 or newer I’m assuming since I don’t have the freeform button in my iCloud.

What would be cool is if Apple created different downloadable component packages based on what the user wants to collaborate with others. For example, they could generate a network components package that can be used by networking and engineering professionals that would make it as useful as Visio and then seal the deal by adding all the collaboration features this new app brings to the table
It’s an interesting app – but one drawback in drawing charts is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to have live line connections between symbols (like a flow chart) so when you move those objects around, the connecting lines stay connected and move if you move the connected objects. (like features that Visio has) Otherwise, it’s a good start.
The zoom thing makes it amazing for summaries. Like you draw a mindmap of the overall theme of you stuff and then you make your summaries and examples super small. If you have a study group it’ll be rad. Like I learn spatially and if I remember where on the map I dropped something it can help me remember other properties about that.
Personally I will use it like I use notability. For site inspections and calculation notes. So for site inspections I drop a building plan in and then when something isn’t built correctly I’ll drop a photo or a note – sometimes I’ll go to site with a colleague so it’ll be handy to have all observations in one place.
Calculation notes are like the steps and information I used to get to a conclusion in my report but you always get a colleague to check your working out methods. So now instead of pdf ing my note before checking, getting comments, and then updating, I could maybe ask my boss to have a look mid-calc to see if I’m going about a problem the rights way.
Also nice to make a mini product catalog. If I see a new type of ceiling tile or interesting way to use it then I can drop a pic in a shared file for my colleagues to see if they’re working through options with clients
Nice job. I think some viewers would have been helped by having you point out clearly what features in Freeform are not duplicated in the Notes app.

Eh, I don’t think this will replace other note taking apps, this really doesn’t have the functionality that apps like good notes and notability currently have, Apple has full capacity to make their own app like this that would knock these guys out of the competition but still have not delivered…
i need to explore those apps a bit more to really get a full comparison

I’m a graphic designer and I’ve been thinking of using Freeform for brainstorming, preliminary sketches and what not. However I would not be using the colab feature because if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years as a graphic designer is to never let your clients see your preliminary sketches because, and this has happened to me on multiple occasions, they will take the ugliest sketch and want you to work off that. So all my sketches and brainstorming are all top secret, never seen by the client.
