Do you think AT&T will ever launch their own SOS via satellite service?
Good question. The number of companies trying to get into this satellite service is growing, but whether they opt to actually launch their own service or simply partner with other companies to join in will be interesting to see. iPhone 14 users on AT&T, or any other carrier, will be able to use Apple’s emergency sos via satellite when it becomes available.
It will be interesting the day Tesla gets into the watch and phone business.
It won’t. At best it will just be android and people have chosen their OS safe places by now. The market is matured.

T-Mobiles offering is not really satellite connection because the phone must first connect to a tower then from there other infrastructure communicates with the satellite.
Actually the phone comunucates directly with the satellite , the new starlinks are being equipped with high sensitivity antenna to pick up the standard 5g cell signals from the phone provided you have a view of the sky: it’s basically a very powerful,highly sensitive standard cell tower in the sky that most phones can see and use provided theres a roaming agreement in place

True, though no doubt Apple will do the usual roll-out – next to UK, Germany and France (and maybe Canada, though it’s probably a nightmare for coverage) and then roll out to other countries regularly from there. They’re usually pretty good at expanding these services pretty quickly.
How much space trash will this cause? I wish they made an ability to land again when the satellites are obsolete.
Starlink satellites, being in such a low orbit, enter the Earth’s atmosphere rather quickly and burn up on reentry to avoid becoming space junk after they stop being operational.
