1. It makes sense for apple to shelve EDS so that they can get 16.1 through the door in time for the new iPads. It’ll likely be back in 16.2 beta shortly after the full release of 16.1

2. Just turned off Automatic Updates. I like external monitor separate windowing Stage Manager support too much – even with the bugs. I’ll bet they turned off external monitor support since it probably was a mess right now to only allow it for M1 devices once Stage Manager support was enabled for the other older iPad Pros. They probably have some coding to implement external monitor support only for M1 iPads as they break that out as a separate feature.

   • They just don’t want to give A12X and Z users a taste before they take it away.

3. Thanks for the info. I just shut off automatic updates because for now, being able to read my e-textbook in the Kindle app on the monitor while handwriting notes in GoodNotes on the iPad is all I care about.

4. I just bought ipad pro m1 last month because of stage manager and the new display because I know it does not come to older model but now, I can’t believe it also come to an older ipad pro… Very nice apple…

5. Secondary monitor support shouldn’t be tied into stage manager. It should be it’s own feature

   • Totally agree. Apple are always banging on about how powerful iPad is (particularly the GPU) and driving two screens, even a secondary 4k one, seems pretty basic. I’d even settle for losing the inbuilt screen and driving just one 4k screen in ‘docked’ mode, kinda Nintendo Switch style.

This is awesome, I wasn’t happy when I realized my IPad Pro 11” (2018) didn’t work with stage manager, I downloaded the Beta on day one and was incredibly sour, I’m glad us speaking up actually did something! I hope they bring back external monitor support for M1 iPads though, I get that the port on the non M1 probably isn’t fast enough for all the different monitor resolutions, maybe they could just limit it to 2k or 1080p monitors…idk

7. I was really looking forward for the external monitor support. Especially I’m using iPad as a teaching tool.

Not sure how well this will work, but I turned off my iPads automatic updates so I can keep my external monitor support on my M1 Pro with my public beta software and just wait to update until the put the external monitor support back into a future beta. I don’t want to lose that feature for 8 weeks or 12 weeks or however long it takes them to put it back in beta!

9. I get people are upset about external monitor support being delayed for M1s. BUT. As a 2020 iPad Pro owner, I am THRILLED to be getting stage manager. I have the 12.9” and it is more than enough screen real estate – especially with the shelf and dock turned off. I can’t wait!! So happy Apple listened to us and reversed course. I have an m1 Mac mini so my desktop needs are met and stage manager makes my iPad more of a laptop replacement so I am thrilled.

   • I’m so mad cause I have IPad Air 4 and I know it can handle it

   • I was so surprised when I heard that all iPad Pro models will get the feature! Also have the 2020 model and was just so frustrated because it was really expensive, so luckily i got some more use out of it^^

   • I am mad cuz I didn’t even know about this! I literally just bought a new iPad Pro yesterday, and I was torn between the 11 and 12.9 and I figured I would go ultimate portable but then be able to use the external support with a 11 inch. I would of bought a 12.9 smh. It’s such a pain returning everything to Best Buy too.

10. It’s not “removed”, everything is still in Beta, lol. It’s better for programmers to go over the code and fix the glaring issues being reported b4 putting it out for testing again. That only makes sense.

    Happy to hear all M1’s and Pro models will be able to use a version of stage manager. (We’re all coming out of COVID shutdowns, after all. Gotta keep what you have for a bit more.)

11. In my opinion, external monitor support should have been left in, but as an experimental option in settings where you would have to manually go in and toggle it on.

12. Stage manager for older iPad pros is a win but I think, if fair is fair, M1 iPad Pros should have external support to utilize that ‘stronger’ chip. This hints to me that the M1 chip is not THAT much stronger than non-M1 chips.

    • M1 chip miles better than the other chips
      The thing is stage manager isn’t that hard to run on the older iPad pros

I ordered a 4K monitor today that can support data and power delivery because we were informed that apple will be releasing stage manager in the m1 iPads in October. iPad was my first apple product i wanted to use iPad as only computer but the way i see it now i think what we can do in a windows laptop or android is amazing we just have to power on the device and its ready to use. In apple its a different story so many dongles, i could have got a 4K monitor for less but i had to pick one which can deliver power so it upped the price and now this news that there is no secondary monitor support. I feel cheated and like a complete idiot to have trusted apple. I think the way to get the real work done is still android and windows. Very disappointed.

    • I have an air 3 and a barely hanging on 2017 Mac air. I have been saving and Savin since they announced the feature. I don’t need a computer and an iPad. I just need multiple windows on a full size screen to edit documents and teach my online classes.
      To me it feels like they realized a large number of people where about to just use iPads for work and killed a feature we had been waiting on to force at least one more macbook purchase.
      They can’t do this forever as more and more of my family/friends/colleagues are trying to switch to just a phone and tablet and not buying laptops, let alone desktops anymore.
      It doesn’t take much power to work in word/excel/PowerPoint, or Apple versions of those, do basic normal work or home tasks, post to social media, or consume content.
      Even my 72 year old grandma stoped using her TV and macbook after many years of PC, Mac, and TV use cause she says iPad does any computer task she needs. She complained when this news came up….

14. I would rather have proper external monitor support than stage manager , there are plenty of multi tasking options i iPad but blank bars are pathetic on large monitors

15. I’m really unhappy about this, I’m happy they are bringing stage manager to older iPads. But I used secondary monitor all the time… it was the only reason I upgraded.

16. The extension of the iPad display was “the feature” with which the iPad Pro would really have become a Pro. But it’s not done now because some people with their old pads “absolutely” wanted stage managers, which is then only used three times a year. To do this, we have to do without real support for an external monitor.

17. Some apps that play video can’t maximize the full horizontal screen, now the version you review fixed that. I believe there is some conflict with the extended screen feature that still needs to be fixed by Apple.

18. as long as secondary display support is definitely coming to M1 iPads, I’m happy. I’m bummed we’re going to have to wait even longer… but I knew I was holding out on buying a MacBook for a reason. I won’t need to if my M1 iPad get’s real secondary display support.

19. Stage Manager is not deal breaker for me on older iPad. But I’d really love full monitor support on older iPad though.
