    • That dead bolt is definitely not insurance approved that’s why I wouldn’t install one. There’s virtually nothing but the battery between you and a burglar.

    • I prefered 100% an August smart lock and I already have one! I liked much more for the auto unlock and auto lock functionality..

    • Shot In The Dark you think with the battery being so small and compact, inside of metal container, it will bend or break?

    • Mike R Media I agree. In his case doesn’t matter since he has a glass pane right beside the deadbolt. I never understood deadbolts in a glass door like that.

    • Yep, easy to hacksaw through if you can get the blade between the door and the jamb.

However the key itself can be fairly easily attacked by anyone with a couple months worth of paying attention to ‘lock sports’ you tube.

Honestly locks are generally easily defeated and I do not want to put a REMOTE attack surface on one! I just don’t get the appeal of this stuff in general.

  1. Jeff, the only thing that worries me is 1) the duration of the battery and 2) most importantly, the location of the battery makes us think that this hollow deadbolt is weak, through this video WE KNOW the weakness, the achilles heel of the system , rest … I loved it. Of course the system is not intended for thieves who force the door with a lever, but in the event that this occurs, it is easy, because the pin is hollow and also… Inside is the battery, you kill two birds with one stone, violent the traditional mechanism and deactivate the intelligent system. I wish the pin was solid steel and the battery put it somewhere else. I don’t know, it occurs to me

  2. I was waiting to hear about the process (ease) of access. Do you have to pull out your phone and run the app to unlock the door? Or, does it simply sense your proximity and open? What if you have a handful of groceries?

  3. the dealbreaker for many is the hollow deadbolt with battery inside. works for low security areas.

  4. Such an innovative design. I would question the security, but if it meets all deadbolt standards that others have to meet, then that’s good enough for me. Great review!
