Apple just released iPadOS 16 beta 5 to all developers and i wanted to see what was new and also see if we got any stage manager stability improvements!

Would appreciate any more info you can dig up on a rundown of the screen spec’s for which StageManager is optimized. If you have access to one of those screens, a comparison to your wide-screen seems to be in order. I note another commenter says his 4K is (more) stable. Like you, a lot of us share your high hopes for the feature. Would love to see your result.

Apple just might delay iPadOS 16 which is crazy because if it were another feature they’d just release the OS and delay the particular feature. This goes to show you that iPadOS 16 has very little to offer besides Stage Manager and people who just spent so much money on a fairly current 2020 iPad PRO…won’t even get THAT feature. This is wild. Lol
The only thing that iPadOS16 gives to non m1 iPads are weather app and better files app
@scout tf2 I’m very much looking forward to being able to remove backgrounds in photos and insert wherever I like. I have an M1 iPad Pro and I will be using regular split screen because stage manager does not interest me. But bring on the rest of iOS 16 so we can at least be enjoying that. Who knows they may not have stage manager under control for quite some time.
I can see why iPadOS will be delayed until the Oct event when the new iPad are due. That will give Apple time to get external monitor support for non-4K displays and optimise better. Obviously this is only a beta so any critique should be based on this is not for consumers. It is primarily for developers and therefore expect ups and downs with performance, especially as Stage Manager is a new feature.
Because it’d make sense to announce the new iPads at the same time as the release of the new iPadOS.
When will be available for public beta this new beta 5 for developers? I am in the public beta and still cannot update

great review, just sharing my ipad pro beta experience; downloaded the beta, everything worked great but i honestly did not like the features enough to further invest in the ipad long term (was thinking about buying magic keyboard, pencil, etc. so i ended up trading in my ipad pro m1 towards the macbook air m2. I’m very happy with my trade in.
I just don’t understand the love Magic Keyboard gets. Yes, it’s convenient. If all you do is type words and nothing else, it does that well. However, for the absurd price, you get very little else. It doesn’t protect the edges. There are a few scenarios where the tablet will pop out when you least expect it. If you want to use your tablet for media, none of the normal keyboard shortcuts work for play/pause and other features. My BT Logitech keyboard, all those features work perfectly. It’s definitely an Apple Magic Keyboard thing. Because the weight is in the tablet, the keyboard has to have weight since it is the base. So, it’s heavy, heavier than my 14 inch laptop. There is no place to secure your Apple pencil. If you store it in a case or backpack, the pencil will fall off. Speaking of the Apple Pencil, unless you are an artist, it’s not worth it. It should have some amazing features to make it more useful, but it doesn’t. Samsung Note pens do so much. Not Apple Pencil. Everything about the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil is uber premium priced but then lacks many of the features you hoped it would have. The one thing I do love about the Magic Keyboard, it sits your lap like a real laptop. I don’t like kickstands because they can’t always be used in your lap or on small tables.
Google maps has been so primitive for over a year now, Apple Maps actually had road markings, once you use it you realise how bad google and Waze are
I think Copy and Delete is my new favorite feature ever.
Would be great to see stage manager experience with apps like zoom, google drive (2 sheets at the same time), etc.
@10:15 I think that stage manager nostly crashing on apps is due to the apps need some update to add support to stage manager. native apple apps work fine already on stage manager as of Beta 5.
I noticed with latest iPadOS 16 Beta (d) it feels snappier. I think it was more the previous versions got sluggish. I noticed it right away when opening my apps. Anyone feel the same way?
(As far as I know) the d moniker at the back of the version ID doesn’t mean that we’re getting closer. I’m pretty sure it just means the build number, so d is the 4th build. Apple probably has an internal test suite and the first 3 builds didn’t pass and they had to fix errors and isn’t indicative of when the release will be. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure about this
The bugs described as shutdowns are actually just springboard crashes
For some reason on beta 5 (just updated) the stage manager apps won’t do the thing where it zooms them in/out a bit when you click on them if it’s filling say half of the screen, meaning if I have two apps layered like that even if I click onto another app which I have on the other side of the screen, it won’t allow me to access the app under the one already there
Does the iPad iOS 16 offer split screen for all apps now? Currently iOS 15 allows app developers to restrict if the app can be split screened or not. Thanks
Stage Manager isn’t available for Ipad MIni 6th Gen. Only screen mirroring.
