2. I’m all in… Was planning on investing in LG’s display but glad Apple is back in the display game!

   • Techcheck Ben is thinking too much. 40Gbps transfer speed is just enough for 6400*3200 10 bit 60Hz without compression.

5. Hope this makes its way into the iMac too. When the 5K came out, the panel alone would cost you almost what the whole system did to match it, hope they would do that again with the 6K panel.

7. With all do respect, I think you still need to expand your thought processes Ben. You’re still thinking of it from your perspective only…

   1) There are many more photographers and graphic artists than video professionals. We don’t want UW.  Video professionals outside of YouTube have 2 and regularly, 3 monitors to work with. So you could cut that down to two UWs? Not sure if that’s really beneficial. Three new 4K monitors will probably still be much cheaper and flexible than 1 Apple 6K UW monitor.

   2) I really think we’re going to get 8K with the 31.5″ monitor. 6K just feels like a half-step to me and not a long-term solution. If you’re going to make a big and expensive monitor, then it needs to useable for a long time.  Maybe, Apple will come out with 8K AND 6K monitors. I’ll tell you why in a moment…

   3) I think the 8K monitor will be paired with the Mac Pro which will easily be able to run it. As PCIe 5.0 is out and can handle the bandwidth with room to spare and the Mac Pro will have it. Just makes sense to me.

   4) The 6K monitor will be for people who want to extend they iMac Pro displays. The iMac Pro can drive the 6K monitor without issue. People who get iMacs rarely get multiple monitors. As an IT professional as well, I’ve never seen or been requested to provide that to an iMac user.

   Regardless, I think this could be an exciting year. Waiting to see what the Mac Pro can do!

8. Now you are in the right path. It’s a 6k3k monitor. Not a 6k only. Is a ultra wide like LG monitor. But still your bevels is to large. I believe in a discrete bevels via software, like os9 was.

   • If it’s a microLED as he said, it can only be a samsung monitor…

9. I’m going to start this again … if it’s not going to be an 18K 42:9 curved (almost circular / full surround) aspect ratio with 16bit color depth and at least a solid 240Hz refresh rate … it’ll just be a complete lack of innovation on Apple’s part …. and then what’s the point of life?

   • Agreed RAZER Chroma RGB and APPLE pencil support as well

   • +DMN with built in solar panels so that you can turn on the monitor endlessly to display Apple’s glorious logo..

10. A couple of corrections. I said a 7% increase in resolution between the proposed 6K and existing 5K iMac. It’s actually a 20% difference. Also, the LG UltraFine 4K noted in the photo is actually 4096×2304.

    • Jeff Benjamin You are thinking too much. 16:9 31.6 inch 220 ppi 6K resolution makes perfect sense. And 6400*3200 is just as much as a single thunderbolt 3 can handle without compression.

11. Given that a lot of creative pro video editors are editing at 8K I wonder if it might instead be a fill 8K display like Dell’s 8K but in an ultra wide format say 35″?

12. Great rebuttal video Jeff. You are making a great comeback as to why it’s worth discussing. Personally an Ultra wide would be awesome. I’d buy it. This is why I am still on one monitor. I want my ultra wide to match my 1920X1200 monitor.
    Let’s see what is announced. (:

I assumed it would be a longer version of 2880p from the second i read “6k by 3k”, if it was going to be 16:9 he would have just said “6k” and 31.6 inches wouldn’t have been big enough for the consistent PPI Apple likes to shoot for. a longer version makes sense because they can just have the panels cut from the same panels used to make 5k displays. same PPI, same everything. hopefully the display is around 1499. it will be hard to justify charging much more than that considering the 5k imac has an entire computer in it for a couple hundred more.

14. Even it’s all sounds reasonable I stay with you 6k Display. Why not a 6k iMac Pro and the new display?

15. I hope it’s between 16:10 and 16:8 (2:1), ultrawide might seem fancy, but it’s not optimal for everyone.

16. Just coming in with some excited blue sky thinking and not based on hard numbers so forgive me. I’d imagine Apple pushing a higher res to make a ‘PRO’ statement, so I’m imagining an 8K display. They gave us 5K ‘when we didn’t need it’ so I wouldn’t be surprised at a bigger push for higher resolution.

    I don’t think (and hope that) that they don’t focus in any way on matching the current iMac design language it doesn’t make sense to me. Still looks good but is very dated. It’s time to reinject some excitement into their ‘Pro’ hardware and a new design language would be welcomed.

    I also can’t see Apple doing UW. I think they’ll do a 16:10.

17. I wouldn’t mind a wider screen, but not ultra wide. I’m not working with video and I think there’s a lot of pros in design who would like to move over to the new mac pro when it comes, and design pros do not benefit largely from a ultra wide monitor. A matter of taste too I guess.
