LG UltraFine 5K Display: a worthy MacBook Pro companion?
I was ready to order before the news got out about the availability. Easy
3-5 days delivery. But Apple Switzerland removed the product and since
then, no one at Apple or LG seems to care. Horrible customer support from
Apple Switzerland and LG. Lousy!
I really want two displays but Swiss customers can’t order. But at least
they’re looking after the AirPods….
Apparently LG forgot a Swiss-specific power cable. A cable every pro-user
has at home already. Pfff…
i guess i d prefer a 5k imac it is way cheaper, looks better etc. and 4 the
go an ipad is enough
Hard to argue against the fact that the iMac 5K is a simpler, faster, and
better-looking solution.
MacBook Pro with dual 5Ks beats an iMac 5K easily. And you have a mobile
workstation with 2TB SSD storage in addition when on the go.
Still not as fast as an iMac 5K. And definitely not as good looking, but to
each his own 🙂
But much more versatile and more pixels. When I had a MBP and a Mac Pro, it
was so annoying to setup and maintain file synching. So I prefer a mobile
solution with a proper setup at home. I’d say dual 5K is proper.
It’s crazy that so many complain about the looks. What matters is how the
content looks, not the design of the monitor. Or do you look at the
iMac/Thunderbolt Display from behind when working? Because that’s clearly
the better looking side on those screens as those enormous bezels are also
not that flashy to look at.
Markus LC if you don’t need desktop performance and ever want to use your
computer on the go, this is a no brainer. I’d never get an iMac for those
reasons.
Can you confirm that the 5Gbit/s hub is not even fast enough for normal USB
3.0 devices such as the Samsung T3 SSDs. Apparently those drives are a lot
slower (100MB/s less) when connected via the hub on the screen as compared
to when connected to the MBP directly.
Also, did you notice any sleep/wake issues some users are reporting?
+slaWterCH seems to work okay with my Atom SSD, but I haven’t done
extensive testing

Since the 3 extra ports only deliver USB 3.0 speeds they should’ve been
Type-A ports not Type-C. If they were Type-A ports, I think people would
have been a little more accepting of Type-C on the MBP’s. Apple has been
making some really terrible hardware decisions lately, things that I think
Steve Jobs would never agree to. The Apple magic is dead imo.

This is a sweet monitor. I want one.
This is a GOOD monitor, but it only supports macOS.
No, it doesn’t only support macOS
And does it supports other thunderbolt3 devices?
How would you compare this to LG’s 27UD88? I think I’d prefer it for it’s
lower price, yet still at 4k, and with USB-A ports.
ordered my last week 🙂 in Australia its on special for 1400 and will go
back up to 2000 bucks in March :)

Display iMac and I want to pair it with another 5K Retina monitor with
similar specs would this be the monitor to buy? Are there others I could
buy that are cheaper?

The Apple thunderbolt monitor was far better looking device than this one.
This looks cheap and plasticy …. the thunderbolt display has awesome
design and was very desirable.

Saw that you’re using a 13in TB model. Has the monitor lagged or dropped
frames at all? Saw a couple posts of people seeing frame drops with the nTB
model
