We've had the new M2 iPad Pro in the studio for a few days and I wanted to quickly compare it to the 'Old" M1 iPad Pro. Basically if you own the M1 iPad Pro, skip the m2

Honestly the hover feature is more annoying than useful. While entering data like passwords, it ruins the entries. However, upgraded from the original iPad Pro to this new M2. Enjoying the overall performance despite not observing any design change.
I use windows 365 as part of my work. The hover feature is amazing as mouse in a windows remote environment.
Most realistic for typical iPad user review I’ve seen, good job.
I said it when the M1 Apple products started to rollout that Apple has hit the point of diminishing returns for the typical Apple user. That performance increase will become barely noticeable for everyday use so going to be hard for Apple to convince users to upgrade moving forward. So looking at what Apple has been doing since M1 is mainly pumping up the GPU count for more graphical speed that give small noticeable bump to average user, but will give a more noticeable bump to prosumer video content creator. Then look at how Apple is using the new chip they are doing more graphical app like Freeform and the pen hover are thing taking advantage of more GPU power. Apple appears to be doing adding more AI so a lot of behind the scenes CPU use.
I just upgraded to M2 iPad Pro – received yesterday. Thought they sent me silver by mistake. Bummed that the new space gray is much lighter. Thought I got a defective one. Thank you for confirming.
I’m sticking with my iPad Air for now. It still performs well. The folio keyboard died unexpectedly and its now 50% more expensive to replace than when I bought it.
This M2 iPad Pro is my first iPad I’ve ever owned, I have a iPhone 10s max and a 2012 MacBook Pro, so I believe I did a good job upgrading.
I don’t use the apple pencils or keyboards, I may consider a keyboard in the future.
Still keeping my 10.5 iPad Pro. It runs absolutely perfectly on iPadOS 15 and I can’t justify the reason to upgrade
I have the 2019 iPad Pro 12.9. It works fine for me. With that said I might upgrade to the M1 iPad Pro 12.9 maybe.
I primarily use it for school work in my classroom.
The last iPad I owned was the iPad mini 1st gen like 10 years ago! I’ll be using the M2 11” iPad Pro I bought for school and media consumption. I’m super happy about getting it 🙂
The hover works like a mouse cursor. Think of all the cases where you can preview something just by putting your cursor over it without clicking. You can preview videos without clicking, and even scrub through the timeline on YouTube etc. it’s also really nice to know what your brush looks like without touching for drawing. It’s not life changing but I find it useful. It’s like a cursor and an extra accurate stylus.
I would find it useful if it acts as long touch preview on the iPhone.
The iPad Air 5 already said iPad Air on the back, compared to the 4th gen. So this finally applied now on the iPad Pro too. We‘ll have to wait till they do it for the iPad mini
I am curious about Davinci Resolve for iPad. This might show the advantage of the M2. Together with FreeForm I expect this to introduce a new group of users (like me ;-)) Imagine color correcting with a pencil. Even think about using a color correcting monitor (with an Ultra Studio of BlackMagic) connecting to the iPad… This would be revolutionary. FreeForm will not need the speed of an M2 I expect, but for a lot creatives this could be the design thinking tool.
Man I got the M2 on release day and I can’t stop using it. This is my first iPad in 8 years so this thing runs amazing
The M2 iPad Pro is made for someone who doesn’t yet have an iPad Pro, and has been waiting for the right time, money-wise and otherwise, to get one. By sheer coincidence, this happens to be a perfect description of me!
The new features, particularly hover, are just barely desirable enough to make me shell out a few hundred bucks more for a brand new one than a 2020 model, but definitely wouldn’t be enough to make me want to upgrade if I already had a Pro. That’s a pretty thin slice of the public, and I predict fairly disappointing sales for this iPad.
My last iPad was the mini 1st gen I’m excited about getting the new 12.9 for myself for Christmas. I’ll be drawing and gaming on it. I cannot wait!
I had the iPad Pro 11 inch 2020 and it was absolutely a beast with with everything I throw at it Unfortunately, I accidentally damaged internal screen not to long ago and apple said it would cost more then half the piece of the M2 pro (no apple care here) so ended up upgrading my iPad earlier then I wanted
I have a non M1 iPad Pro – only e really reason to upgrade for me would be to get the miniLED for better video on content streaming.
