Good tip. But I have Canary as my main mail app. It still opens the Apple mail app.
Then just say open Canary

If you have “Hey Siri” on and you don’t have AirPods or anything with an external mic connected you can start saying “open app” a split second before even clicking the side button and Siri will hear you once she’s invoked.
Also for most apps you don’t even need to say open. I can just say “YouTube” and the app will open.
And for websites it’s easy to set shortcuts. I have one where I just say “9 to 5” and it’ll take me to the website.

I use this all the time. Just hey Siri without having to hit the power button or screen and compose an email using voice only. Great for hands free imessage.
You don’t actually need to say “Open”
For some apps, no, but it’s a requirement for some third party apps. For example, if you just say “Canary” Siri will push a definition of a bird instead of opening the Canary Mail app. If you say open Canary, it opens the app. Hence, using “Open” is the safest choice.

How and why was I not aware of this already? Do you know how many thousands of times I had to unlock and then open up the app I wanted to use. WOW! Brilliant! I will be using this often.
You lost me at “invoke Siri”…
Prevents that ADHD distraction when opening the phone, go right to the app you wanted before all the shiny icons distract you. Been recommending Siri “open app” for years.
Sometimes she gets confused and won’t open apps like “open weather” and she’ll say “you don’t seem to have an app called ‘weather’.” To which I found I have to tell her to feck off then say “open the app called weather” and that often works when she’s gotten all confused.
