DETAILED VIDEO SYNOPSIS:

The 2020 iMac (5K, 27-inch) is an amazing value. It comes with a great display, more powerful and functional CPUs and GPUs, standard SSD, and much, much more. I also do an in-depth look at the performance implications for Final Cut Pro X users. But there's one big elephant in the room that prospective purchasers will need to think about.

You missed an additional port change: SD card slot is now UHS-II.
You’re right!… you know… I thought to myself, “let me check on the SD Card slot just in case Apple updated it…” but then I thought, “wait…this is Apple, there’s no way they’d do that just because…” Well what do you know, I _should_ have checked. Hah! Good on Apple for adding it. It’s a small feature, but nice to have for those that can actually take advantage of it. One more reason to consider this soon to be unicorn. I’ll include this detail in the written review going live tomorrow. Thanks Craig!
Would you guys and gals like a hands-on with the 10-core w/ Radeon Pro 5700 XT and nano-etched coating? Or is this one review enough?
Yes and please check out the fans while creating 4K video.
meh to nano but want to see the 5700 xt
Yes please.10 core. … send it to me when you have done the review 😛 Also (since the drives are the key to speed) how are the ssds configured? Is the 4tb = 2 x 2tb and can they be raid 0? What type of ssd are they?
I would like you to benchmark games I actually play – like CS:GO, Modern Warfare, etc. Nobody plays Apple Arcade games or Sonic Racing….
If you need a new machine def get this. Don’t wait. The new ones will be buggy AF for a while. New OS with all new hardware? No thanks.
The new os is so that things aren’t buggy on the new hardware.
Mine arrived today 😀 I was an early adopter on the Intel iMac and the first 2 year there were lots of issues.
@DATING HARLEY QUINN Exactly! They will be buggy for a while. I’d rather have stable than bleeding edge.
@dragonballjiujitsu – Well the motherboard physically burned out on my 2009 27″ iMac so I had no choice. But honestly. Rather than being disappointed that I am forced to buy the last of the old instead of the new. I am actually really happy. It looks like they have thrown a lot of stuff at it to make it attractive and stop people waiting and that suits me FINE.
Im an author – bulletproof reliability is the be-all and end-all for me. I cant afford to lose my work or even a thought. I need it to switch on and work 100% of the time 24/7 for 10 years and NEVER glitch. Cos the glitch ALWAYS loses that golden sentence or thought you have been waiting all week for….
Id be way more pissed if they had just launched the new one… In fact id buy a second hand one and wait.
I want a Mac like “Mac mini pro”. Mac Pro is too powerful but Mac mini’s GPU isn’t powerful enough. iMac is great, however, I don’t get to keep the stunning display. I would genuinely appreciate if Apple makes an option to purchase 5K iMac display NOT the XDR “PRO” display.
Yes! Sell standalone display with the screens of the iMacs.
Lots of people would buy a 5k display for 1299 and a 4K display for I dunno, 699? Those LG ones were just not good enough
9:03 yes please I would like to see a review of the 10-core i9 2020 iMac.
Roger that.
Just bought mine as I am a graphic design student. Although I have a MacBook Pro, quarantine seems to be mandating a workstation on a budget. Thank you for the review!
Yeah. As nice as MacBooks are, nothing beats a dedicated desktop. Especially an all-in-one with a fantastic display.
I’m a motion and graphic designer professional using a mid 2014 top spec Macbook Pro. Don’t say this is a workstation on a budget, it offers more than you really need at the moment.
@Diego Mendi cool
Thnx for the review. I’m glad someone finally got the base model and not the 10 core since we’re not all heavy load video creators.
I’ve never had an iMac, only Macbooks and i’m super excited to buy this! I love the display because I have always wanted one and now am almost able to purchase one. I’m hoping within the next few weeks I will buy. Awesome review!
Thanks and Enjoy!
Really would like a review of the nano display and why someone should get it, pros and cons.
System architect for work, so having the option to still run windows was the key for me to buy the 2020 iMac
Plus, after 15 years of intel , pretty sure this is one of the best build macs for years to come 🙂
The next (Apple Silicon) iMac may also have a catch- It won’t be able to run bootcamp. I enjoy a bit of casual windows gaming, So I’m torn between this old design but decent spec intel and waiting … for something that may not be worth waiting for.
+ Calling it here first: I’m guessing the Apple Silicon iMac won’t have user-upgradable Ram and will be soldered in like the Macbook range and they will still charge a fortune for memory upgrades.
VERY interesting. All other unboxings of this model I watched, none had a screen protector.
Looks like apple is starting to make good base model products. 2020 MBA, and this iMac. Good thing!
“this is jeff with idownloadblog” who still remembers that in 2020? 🙂
*I ALWAYS BUY THE BASE SPECK* then max out the RAM with 3rd party RAM and then keep it for 10 years…
My 4th iMac arrived today – so that is me set for another decade…
Everybody wants to wait for Apple Silicone but in the mean time this iMac or the 10th Intel generations will do the work a few more years. Also keep in mind the Silicone computers won’t be cheaper than the Intel ones.
I think i missed most of this review. Was way to focused on his soothing voice…. ASMR on steroids.
