The Apple MacBook Air product line is for normal consumer laptop part of the grid who keep and use their devices for five or more years. If you want to do professional work purchase a Apple MacBook Pro out of the professional laptop part of the grid.

I have the M2 MBA and I never think about having the 2nd display. One is more than enough and I think the majority of casual users would feel the same. Any users requiring more than 1 display should probably purchase the MBP, yes? I do admit the MBA is much lighter and easy to haul around compared to the MBP, but each model is for specific users and not universal at all.
These are great but I’ve noticed that when InstantView or DisplayLink run it seems to make it feel less snappier. Also because they need screen recording running it disables HDCP which can lead to other things like streaming services not working correctly.
I don’t see it as a limitation at all for a basic laptop and typical use case the laptop and one external display is more than enough. Even when I was a SysAdmin and needed a lot of screen real estate so I could have many terminal windows open I only used two 27″ monitors. If I felt I needed more with a MBA I’d just buy a wide screen monitor that combined with the laptops monitor would be more than enough. Two external monitors on a MBA isn’t realistic.
This is a misleading title. The biggest problem in the MacBook Air is the storage and heat because I own the m2 air

I use cheap Dell Dock D6000 whitch I bought for 40 usd and it’s driving my 3 monitors perfectly. Displaylink is software based so it uses GPU to encode the signal so keep that in mind. If you only need to connect multiple monitors and charge via USB-C, it’s pointless to spend money on these expensive docks.
Expensive docks? D6000 is twice the price of the adapter this guy recommends.
@Jonas New maybe, but there are plenty on the market, little used ones from offices that cost a few bucks.
Be aware before purchasing : DisplayLink is nothing less than video screen recording. HDCP content will not work

An alternative is using a ultrawide monitor with your M1/M2 MBA. I’ve used both an inexpensive LG 27″ (2560 x 1080) and a Dell 34″ ultrawide (3440 x 1440) and the results are exceptional. Couple it with Magnet for some easy screen manipulation and you will forget the one monitor limitation.
