  1. Want a cheap one, any cheap alternatives? Right now it makes more sense to buy a more powerful 2nd pc.

  2. So it takes up 2 egpus to davinci work like final cut? haha just kidding, great move from black magic. great video

    • To be fair, multi GPU support has been around for a long time in DaVinci, but it’s more meaningful now to Mac users with macOS 10.13.4 and official eGPU support.

    • There’s nothing to kid about. You couldn’t be more right. This is just painful to watch. Needing an eGPU *and* _TWO GPUs_ to get the performance of even *_iMovie_* ?? Wow.

    • no, even with background render off final cut is really optmized. you can see in the render time even with background render off

    • LOL… pull random *_BS_* out your backend much, Benny-boy??! Maybe catch at least HALF a clue *first* before you post anything and make a complete fool of yourself next time? FCP will give you _TRIPLE_ that performance even on a MAC MINI without optimizing! Never mind that optimized media IS NOT “DOWN-REZED” as well as *COMPLETELY OPTIONAL* , you moron.
Resolve is A LAME DOG, plain and simple.

  3. How about playing games? Can you make a video about this? Testing some games like F1 2017, Fornite, etc

  4. Excelente para exportar videos, pero si tan solo se pudiera usar la pantalla interna para jugar. No hay mejor pantalla que las MacBook Pro o las iMac

  5. Can you do gaming benchmarks on the eGPU. On macOS and Windows on bootcamp? I love these eGPU videos. Keep up the good work.

  6. Very well put together video Jeff, with one exception. I really feel you should state the resolution, FPS, and codec details of what your source file is when doing performance comparisons. I know the point of this video was the relative performance improvements compared to no eGPU. That said, videos like this can set expectations and someone who uses different source material might see different performance results.

  7. Davinci Resolve has been pulling me away from FCPX more and more and it’s free! …for the most part

  8. That is some impressive demonstration.
I find it weird, FCPX not taking advantage of a eGPU.
Nevertheless, pretty impressive stuff. Never seen a 2 eGPUs workflow.

    • Yannis Maragakis what is more impressive is that the reviewer does not evenmention the PCI bandwidth that is utilised. This is the only reason egpus are not fully utilised, scaling is poor and performancr mediocre. Mac specs missing as usually. This video is missleading.

    • Hey Constantinos.
I don’t think data and facts represented here are false or lies.
We should approach this option, different. We’re not building a PC, we’re taking advantage of a hardware, in a very interesting way.
My approach is over-simplified, just to present a reason for using a eGPU.
The purpose of a eGPU, is not to use GFX card’s full potential.
The idea is to take advantage of a far more powerful hardware, on a lower spec portable computer and get that extra power, on projects that need that “extra juice” (but there was no way getting that before).
That is reason enough, to invest in a eGPU (even if the power utilised is not that of 100%.).
At its current state of cost and technology-wise, it’s more appealing to professionals (or dudes with deep pockets).
If the use of total percentage is you goal, give this idea a few generations to evolve and expand. I’m sure new ideas will emerge and it will become more accessible and a powerful option to everyone.

  9. Dude huge thanks for following up on my question last video! I can pretty much make my decision and get me some eGPU now, thanks alot!

    • Tony Whitmarsh before making a decision check how fast the egpus work. What i see here is mediocre performace due to macs and macbooks low pci banwidth. Check the gou usage in the internal mac pro’s gpu. greetings.

  10. I love these eGPU videos. You own this space on YouTube! It’d be great to see a speed test of Adobe Premiere with aneGPU! If Premiere can utilize it, that is…

    • beMOTION.dESIGN not, the issue is drivers. amd allows apple to work on their drivers, nvidia doesnt, so apple doesnt support nvidia

  11. bro i just bought a core x for my imac 2017 retina 4k……… can i use it with out an external monitor?????? …. and what gpu card should i buy …???? (budget) and do i not plug in the imac to wall now??? i dont wanna burn it out by accident it ships tomorrow…. as far as my videos imovie is fine and im not in 4k i just wanna run fortnite at my work station……
