The Apple Watch Series 8 may not have garnered all the attention of the Apple Watch Ultra, but it's a great device. Here are my favorite features of the watch as a first time smart watch user.

Hi
Does the pro reply?
I dont understand what “complications” are. Does it mean it is complicated? I’ve never owned a smartwatch and I keep seeing this term used everywhere.
Wrong choice. Should have get Ultra.
@9to5Mac nice
@Louis Y Why should I? I am not a extreme athlete and therefore I don’t need the Ultra. And as I already mentioned, it would look stupid on my wrist. I’ll wait until next year for a (hopefully) redesigned “normal” Apple Watch with a faster, more efficient chip to get similar batterly life in a not ugly looking Apple Watch. I want stainless steel.
@marcel151 you know the ingress and you know egress. you chosen to come here to tell us your ostrich bias…. it is funny how the older generation thinks
@Louis Y Wtf are you talking about?
@marcel151 forgot youtube is awash with you people. your propensity is wrong, in time u will learn.
☺️
You didn’t mention about sleep cycle. I switched from Samsung to Apple Watch series 8. Apple Watch doesn’t track sleep automatically and also it doesn’t track multiple sleep cycle on same day. But third-party app track using the Apple Watch and why Apple doesn’t?
I think the app autosleep does so, but honestly the built in sleep tracking has done well enough for me.
@9to5Mac You have to set time in sleep focus. right? does it record multiple sleep cycle on same day?
hands down apple’s sleep tracking has been the best. I have tried almost anything I can get my hands on and it just works. I have the ultra and adding the body temp just makes it even more accurate.
@steev the technophile Does it track multi sleep cycle on same day? does it track Automatically without sleep focus schedule?
The latest update does sleep tracking and according to quantified scientist it’s sleep tracking blows away Samsung and the others for accurate sleep tracking and some other measurements.
None of the 60 smart watches he’s tested are really great for blood oxygen- SPO. I’m using a Galaxy watch 4 but I have been considering an Apple watch.
My first smart watch I got Apple Watch Series 3 I got it last year in 2021 December gift from my friend and still works mazing
I have an Apple Watch series 6. It’s not an FDA approved device for fitness tracking, yadda yadda, but i’ve had some health challenges that I’m working with my doctors to identify and address. That being said, I bought the 6 specifically for SP02, heart rate, and sleep tracking. It’s done an amazing job over the last two years, and it’s really convenient to be able to pull up months of data from my phone on demand when meeting with a new specialist. It also potentially saved my life when I had a severe infection and didn’t know it – my HR was over 170 bpm when I was wheeled into an ER in shock.
The Apple Watch is a great device that pulls you deeper into the apple ecosystem and makes the transition between the digital world and the real world even more seamless. It has a ton of little quality of life features that are literally revolutionary the first time you put it on and experience the power packed inside it. But for a lot of people, like myself, It’s a powerful ally in helping us regain control of our health.
EDIT: I’m awaiting your review of the Ultra! It looks like it might be a worthy successor, but it also looks like this might be the year to wait an upgrade next year.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That peace of mind granted from the health & safety features is something I don’t often think about, but I did fall on my bike once, and having the “Fall detected” notification on my watch was confidence inspiring that, if needed, it could help me out. I can’t wait to share my full thoughts on the Ultra. I really like it!
@9to5Mac *knocks on wood* no fall detection here, and hopefully never. I look forward to your ultra review… and take care of yourself! You only get one body.
