1. We need an iPad mini Pro with features like ProMotion, Mini LED, and maybe the M1/M2 chip for people who would rather want to use the iPad as a tablet (like myself) and feel the 11″ or 12.9″ iPad Pro is too large. I sold my M1 iPad Pro and bought the mini 6 because I never used my M1 iPad Pro as a laptop replacement, even with Stage Manager enabled, as macOS was just easier to use for that, and I felt the mini 6 was more suited to be used just as a tablet.

   • @ItsPhil Lang I would pay that much for such an iPad especially as you can add cellular and use it like a phone.

2. I’m often in portrait mode. I read lots of books, articles, webpages and portrait 4:3 fits this perfectly.

   I’m a software engineer and none of the software I want runs on the iPad, so iOS is still incredibly limited and crippling.

   • I have a Samsung tab s7 it’s the only piece of personal electronics I have that’s none apple and honestly it blows the Ipad out of the water in a lot of aspects

   • @David Z – So don’t use iPad. That’s what Macs are for. iPadOS may feel “limited and crippling” to a software engineer, but to regular consumers (who comprise the VAST majority of Apple’s customer base) iOS is a joy to use, and far less complicated than macOS.

3. Thank you for addressing the headache of needing a new Magic Keyboard! I sold my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 and plan to hold out for the new M2 version. I am going to be really frustrated if I can’t use my existing Magic Keyboard along with the P&Q leather cover for said keyboard, enough that I may just find a refurb M1 version if I have to.

   • The Logitech keyboard folio is better option , i had the Magic Keyboard for 2018 model, sold it like after 1 month – just not worth the price, tbh at the combined prices, a MacBook Pro is better option

4. I’m using the 2018 11” IPad Pro, I’m planning to upgrade this year to 12.9” version; if there is no hardware design changes, then I will simply go for M1 12.9” iPad Pro…other i will get the M2 – 12.9” ; surprisingly there haven’t been any leaks of this new iPad unlike the iPhone

5. After spending US$2,000 on my M1 12.9 last year I don’t plan to upgrade until 2024 when the iPads Pro are rumored to get OLED screens, and perhaps an M3 processor (which will be a more significant increase in power than M2). Until then, I’m very satisfied with the current one, especially the MiniLED display.

   • M3 would be pointless, apple’s software can’t even keep up with the M1. I think they’ll just start upgrading parts of the hardware after the M2 chip, they might upgrade to a M2 max chip at best. Who knows bro.

   • I wish everyone thought like this. If your sitting on a m1 there’s really no reason to upgrade…To many people will say the m2 out smokes the m1 thus the m1 is outdated in reality the difference wont be that big at all.

     Like the m1 is stupid fast and will out beat the iphone 14 pro which should tell you how powerful the m1 chip really is

   • I think you you’re gonna have to wait a long time for an M3 iPad…

   • @Windsguidance 18 to 20 months prob after the m2 releases. Not worth getting a ipad each release if your looking for power gains which is extremely not worth it. M1 again is crazy power enough for now and for a few years to come. m2 will be slightly better but nothing to go crazy over

6. I hope they’re going to put a horizontal camera finally and I’m going to care about much the ship as long as it’s capable of doing everything that I needed to and maybe they’re at maxif but the computer type next if not the phone type I don’t like the phone type too much.

7. Continuity cam for iPads would be great – time to get rid of that sideways camera for meetings. If we could also attach the phone to the back of the iPad with MagSafe for continuity cam that would be the best way to integrate it imo.

8. I’m so conflicted haha. I won’t be able to upgrade to a new ipad for a 3 year or more so I’d love to wait. There are many rumors that contradict each other. That suggests that they haven’t started manufacturing it and might take long

9. I agree with you about the landscape mode. There are so many apps that think the entire world was designed to work from a cell phone in the portrait mode. This is really common in banking apps, markets among others. Death to portrait mode if they cannot add the landscape mode.

10. I totally agree with you about keyboards. I have always used Logitech keyboards because they do more and cost LESS in addition to protecting the Ipad better. The Apple keyboards are ridiculously TOO expensive for the product that they sell.

11. I have full intentions of getting the m2 iPad Pro. Don’t have the need for the 14.1 in version however. I’m still holding out hope they’ll eventually merge the two os’s. There’s no longer a need for an iPadOS and the Mac OS. The iPad at this point is more powerful than most full computers out there. With the greatly increased memory there’s no need to nerf the apps on it.

12. I need to upgrade but I wish Apple would allow more accessories for iPad and also software wise to eliminate additional accessories at the same time. I would love an external webcam feature. Also for gaming wise I think it would do so well screen recording and webcam recording for YouTube. Makes life easy for iMovie. Also things like formatting external storage would be a nice feature.

I’m considering ditching my Surface Pro 7 (SP7) for a the upcoming iPad Pro, seeing as how you say you use it as your main computing device, I’m wondering (other than the landscape camera request) what other compromises have you had to make in giving up a laptop. I like the form factor of the SP7 and it’s full laptop specs/capabilities, once you’ve gone touch screen you can’t go back! I want the iPad as a laptop replacement soooo badly, and have tried in the past but it’s never been able to hold its own. I’d really appreciate your thoughts on this topic?

14. Since ditching macOS I have been using my iPad Pro 10.5in. Managing the many files I have accumulated over the years is slow on my aging iPad Pro. I am looking forward to a faster processor and more RAM that hopefully an M2 iPad Pro will bing. I fully agree, move that camera into a landscape mode position.
