I had the opportunity to use the new Sonos Era 300 for a few weeks and I was blown away… Here is my review!

You’re not able to get Dolby atmos if you connect to your tv using Bluetooth. Pretty sure it would max out at 2.1 stereo
Yep. AirPlay would be better as that’s 5.1 but still not atmos. I really wish they had added an hdmi to the 300 but that cuts into soundbar. Unlike the beam 2 it has proper upwards speakers though! Having said that I’ve got Sonos beam and ray and play base and two Samsung Atmos soundbars and I’d always have Sonos in 5.0 or 5.1 over the 3.2.2 Samsung I have. Mind those are great as crazy thin and do wireless Atmos.
@Richard Crossley What if you wire it with usb-c adapter ?
@Denis-Quentin Simon as far as I am aware they don’t do an optical in adapter (which wouldn’t give you atmos but would have been a good add on) and only official Sonos USB C adapters work with it. They want you to buy the Ray or Beam. I have both and they are good but in a small room where you want true atmos one 300 would have been great.
If that is what you want, Arc is what you need to get.
What about the Era 100? Very curious about its performance with a turntable.
I don’t know why they didn’t include and ARC connection to this. It would have been perfect for your TV and Dolby Atmos
They are meant to serve in the surround sound space paired with an arc or Beam 2.
great video one thing missing a pair makes incredible surrounds if you have the arc too
Also makes up for the Beam 2 with no up firing speakers.
Just demoed this and sadly, it’s not for me. Just not into the sound profile. To me it sounds just a bit too “brassy”, brash, like someone drew a bell curve for its EQ, too much mid-range for my liking, especially noticeable when seated next to the Sonos 5 which sounds much richer and more rounded to me. As does the pair of Google Home Max which I currently use. I had the same problem with the Sonos Arc. The “immersive sound” thx to the side and upwards firing drivers seems kinda gimmicky too, it’s nothing like a traditional stereo soundstage which I prefer. The bass is very lively though it had better be for a speaker at this price point. Maybe it’s just my hearing, I dunno, but I’ll just stick with my Home Max setup for now, especially as two of those only cost me AU$500 brand new, compared to a pair of these costing AU$1500.
I’m waiting for my 300 to be delivered really excited about that and I’m going to compare it to my two HomePods. I think that would be a better comparison than just one HomePod. And I’m glad you talked about how to connect your Samsung TV to the 300 I was wondering how I would do that so I guess it’s Bluetooth which I would think Atmos would be disabled is that correct? Haven’t gotten to the end of your video yet – but if the speakers are Left & Right why do you have it ‘front facing’ on your desk. Shouldn’t it be orientated side on? Update – maybe the internal speakers are directed – tried to see from the expanded internal view
bottom line – the 300’s are really designed as rears for beam(gen 2) or the arc. As for music – the Five blows this away period. Every review will tell you this. Atmos music at this time super limited as well. Sticking with my oneSL’s as rears for now and my Fives for music.
What would be the second option to connect to the TV ?
HELP: I previously had the arc connected with two Sonos ones and the sound was great but I was sold on the Dolby atmos of the era 300s so I bought these. After setup, true play tuning, and messing with every setting I could read online for maximum sound I’m noticing the era 300s only fire sound out of the side speakers that are facing away from the set viewing spot. I put my ear against the speakers and it almost sounds like that part of the speakers is the only one that is firing sound. It makes for a less than ideal immersion and I even prefer my ones over this. I’ve set the music playback between full and ambient, turned surround audio up and down, and messed with EQ settings and nothing.. tried all kinds of content including Apple Music in spatial audio and normal, tv, movies, YouTube test clips. It’s all the same. At this point I’d rather have two era 100s and a sub for just a few hundred more.
I like your review but I feel like there might be some misinformation or at least a misunderstanding on your part. I don’t think there is a way to get Dolby atmos or any spatial audio by connecting this to your tv wirelessly.. but it’s open sound stage may however make take the stereo signal and make it feel more spread out.
Hi there, thanks for a great review! Just a question, I thought the Sonos Era 300 can’t connect to TV, although you seemed to be enjoying movies through it. (I currently have a full Bose setup). So my questions are (1) can you connect to the TV easily – wired or wireless (2) is the Sonos Era 300 with a Sonos Bass module better than say a Bose 700 setup with Bass 700 module? Thanks!
