Of course it’s worth it. I get all day battery life. I use the photo watch face with black wallpaper.
When WatchOS 6.1 is released, battery life will return to normal, though the use of the noise complication seems to drain the battery much quicker than if you don’t use it. I can easily make it through an entire day with at least 50% battery life left if I don’t use it. If I do, it’ll be around 40%.

I make it through a full day no worries. Ever since the watch update 6.0.1 it’s been fine. I’m sure it depends on face or what you do just like your phone. I love always on.
I’ll start out by saying that I’m 68 years old so I probably see things differently from younger folks. I have a series two watch. I got it so that I could swim in it and keep track indoors or outdoors. Don’t need a compass thanks and love the idea of always on display but not enough to upgrade. Will hold on to this one for now. Do like fall detection. Maybe that’s on series four. Saw someone on the news who fell down a hill in the dark. Was found because the watch called for help. Still keeping my watch for now!
